When you arrive at the airport in Spain is probably the best, althought the exchange rates will be very similar. Try to find a bureau de change, low commision fees |

All the guys who have mentioned Nationwide are right. I live in Spain but still have a Nationwide current account, I don't get charged for using my card in cash machines here and get great rates. Drew some cash out today and got exchange rate of 1.48. Really quick and easy to open an account. Whatever you do don't use bureau de changes bad rates and usually high commission |

I find if you use the main bank's in Spain you get a better rate than using the street exchanges they show brilliant rates but only if you change thousands of pounds in uk Marks&Spencer give best exchange rates |

usually the best rate is by using your credit card for purchases and meals and then paying it back as soon as you come home that way u get the bank rate and not the tourist rate. |

It depends on who you bank with.
If you bank with the Nationwide on a FlexAccount you pay no commission at all. And you get the best rate. honestly. although I am a customer Martins money tips will tell you the same also. Try their site for further info.

In the UK, Marks & Spencers do a very competitive rate with no charges. I have friends in the UK who always go to them.
If you intend using your cards over here (I live in Spain) you will get a good rate on your credit card, but if you use your debit card you will be charged for each purchase you make. I know Lloyds charge £1 for every purchase you make and other UK banks have similar charges. |

Don't use the excahneg facilities at an airport unless you really have to. The rates are never as good.
Check Marks and Spencer and with your bank. Their rates are always better than at a travel agents.
You should get a good enough rate in Spain, but jsut watch for hidden commission charges. Sometimes the rate advertised can look great but it turns out only to be for huge transactions etc.
Try to avoid using your bank card in hole in the wall machine out there too, as most banks charge huge fees for this. I think nationwide are the only ones eho don't but check first! Same applies for credit cards.
Have a great holiday! |

Thomas Cook is as good as anywhere. The exchange rate is 69 or 70 pence per euro, and is the same for purchases made in the eurozone with a British credit or debit card, or for obtaining euros from a 'hole in the wall'. If you have a card there's really no advantage in converting a lot of British currency into euros.
Edit: using a credit card for purchases in the eurozone is fine, but use an ordinary bank card (debit card) to draw cash from machines. If you use a credit card to draw cash (anywhere, in the UK or abroad) you pay a high rate of interest. |
