English money and exchange it at the Bureau de exchange. Make sure that they are No Commission. Go in and ask if the price displayed is the actual price you get. Sometimes they drop off the anything after the decimal point. example. 2.49, you would only get 2.40 x £'s. Best bet if to change up a small amount and check that it is correct. If you use your debit card, the bank will charge you at least £1.50 per transaction.

I find you usually get a better exchange rate over there so I would take enough euros to cover me on arrival & the rest in english

best credit card is Nationwide as they don't charge any commission and you can use it all over the world. Or use your bank debit card but be careful of charges. The Post Office here can get you Euros, commission free. Split up your cash between travellers so, if there's any problems, there's always one of you who has some cash.
Have fun!
