There was only one cruise ship going to Europe when I asked that same question (actually, I was interested in a less expensive way to travel...boy was I wrong!) It was the QEII, which I think was recently retired, and which is a "floating luxury hotel", in the words of the travel agent I spoke to, so, instead of the then typical price of $600/passage on the airlines, I would have been looking at several thousand.

I flew.

Call a travel agent and find out if there is anything out there that is still making the crossing, but I guarantee you will rethink it when you find out the price.

Your only other option is to work on a cargo ship...and then you are also on their schedule.

I depends on where you're from. There are several ferries to Santander and Bilbao from the UK (Plymouth and Southampton) which take about 24 hours to cross. They cross the Bay of Biscay, which is quite a choppy ride during the winter months. If you're coming from the U.S. then that's another problem, as there are no direct ships. You'd have to check that out.

You can start at a travel agent
