on $3,500.00 dollars a month you can live quite well anywhere in Spain, including the big cities...It all depends the lifestyle you are looking for...
The Costa del Sol is great (where I live) but the Granada coastal area is a bit more economical and just as nice, as you go further east it gets a little cheaper and starts rising again from Alicante up to the french border... Why don't you go "wandering" a couple of months to see for yourself, and finally choose to live in the place that most took your fancy.
Northern Spain is also quite beautiful, around Bilbao, San Sebastián. etc. But the climate in winter is not as mild...it's soggier and colder.
As to big cities...Barcelona and Madrid are the two most interesting to live in.
Wherever you decide on, all of Spain is gorgeous and well worth your time! |

Sure you can live on that in small towns in Places like Extremadura, Asturias, Galicia, and even Andalucia. But forget about living on that for more then 2 months In Barcelona , Madrid or Valencia seeing that all three are very expensive...
Take care..

you can if you live inland as the coast can be quite expensive.
1500-2000 pm for an apt inland it will be cheaper but it is a great way of life |

It really depends on where you want to live and the lifestyle you want to lead. It also depends on whether you are buying property or renting it. If you have a place with a mortgage you should do okay in a fairly rural area. If you are going to rent then you can still have a good life, but you may need to watch your money. $3500 = 2600 Euros, cost of living is cheap here.
If you live in Spain for more than 183 days a year you will be classed as a resident.
Taxes differ here to the States and the UK. There is a wealth tax, but you'd need expert advice on taxes.
If you are just going to disappear it may be difficult to rent or buy because to buy or rent anything here you need an NIE number. Identification number for foreigners. If you just want to bum around and travel, that's okay and your money should be fine, but hotels or hostals will still cost.
Some parts of Spain, away from the tourists you will need to learn Spanish, but if you are going to give it a go I wish you luck |

Spain is not cheap anymore, but if you avoid Madrid or Barcelona, you can really live well with your $3500. Remembre they use Euros, and now $1=0,70Euros.
I could recommend you these provinces: Girona, Tarragona, A Coruña or Granada. If you are really talking seriously, you have to make a lot of research because the South and the North are really different. |
