Can anybody give me advice on moving to Spain from the US? |
We want to move in Spain in 2009 and we were wondering a few things. How much generally does it cost...for example, renting a place (Madrid or Barcelona). Another thing we were wondering was whether or not the malls in Spain have kiosks(carts) and how much it would cost to rent one of those or to put a store up in one of their malls. Any other tips/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

No idea about the kiosks, they do exist but I wouldn't know how much they pay for rent. About renting a flat, it depends a lot in the area, the number of rooms. For example, a flat in Sarrià (one of the poshest areas in Barcelona), of, let's say three bedrooms, two bathrooms would be around 2000/4000 € per month. But if you go to Les Corts (ok, not posh, near Camp Nou) the rent would be around 650/1500 €. I bet Madrid has similar prices. Have a look in these sites:

Your first concern is going to be to obtain immigrant visas for Spain. See website below for contact info so you can talk to the consulate nearest you and learn the requirements for you to "move" to Spain and go into business there. You can also read the U.s. State Dept Consular Sheet on Spain at the 2nd website...esp. read under "Entry requirements." |

well girl, the spanish economy is cooling down , due to the burst in the local housing bubble and certainly the spanish economy is going to be hurt by the global credit crunch which is currently under process. I ASSUME You married an spaniard or you have european spanish background, otherwise you 'll face huge troubles to open your business.
the spanish economy is not so flexible like the U.S. economy, not to mention the taxes, THE LABOR LAWS are quite different compared to U.S. laws.
another data which i consider importan is:
Spain has the lowest birth rate in the world, so for SOME REASON the people can't afford having children I know i know in the majority of the industrialized world the birth rate is low but Among spaniards this is particulary acute, so you'd better think twice about moving to spain.
if you have papers to work in spain , why don't you take an exploratory trip and try to get a job teching english, once there you'll meet locals and have all the info you want from first hand and you'll be able to see what's the best option.
I know there is a shortage of english teachers, and you may take advantage of it ,anyways that's up to you.
good luck!. |
