Basically, villa owners put their villas on there and you contact them directly to sort out the length of stay/ price and things.
I did it in portugal and it worked out SO much cheaper.... and there's some awesome places on there too.
Plus, you get 'insider' knowledge from the owners about where to eat/ drink etc....

I can certainly recommend this site, "holiday lettings", for accommodation in Spain. Whilst I've not had a villa from them, I have used them for apartments on a number of occasions, and have been very pleased with the results.
They give you good detail of the property and area, photographs, prices, availability and contact details for the owner. There seems to be plenty to choose from with them, especially in Spain. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
