Can anyone sugguest anywhere to park a car near to Barcelona with a view to using metro or bus to get into cit? |
I've asked about parking in Barcelona & been strongly advised agaisnt it. I fly into Girona & already have a hire car sorted so have to drive, Do you have any suggestions about where to leave a car close to the city with no parking probs where I could then pick up either metro/bus/taxi? I hope to vist: Museu Picasso,Palau de a Musica,Catedral,Parc de la Citudella,Sagrada Familia Additional Details I'm only going to Barcelona for the day and then driving onto La Pindea near Tarragona. |

So better drive thru to your hotel and take from there the train into Barcelona. You will be better off this way. For the trains look into www.renfe.es. Your station will be either Salou or Cambrils. The train will bring you right into the city center, station Passeig de Grácia. Travel time is about 1 hour. At about all of the stations close to Tarragona you can park for free and the train ride along the coast is enjoyable. For sure, don´t go to the station "Camp de Tarragona". It is the high speed stations with few trains stopping there and way out of Tarragona.
If you definitely will do Barcelona on the way south, pass it by and go to Vilanova y la Geltru, park there at the station and take the train into Barcelona Paseig de Gracia or Plaça Catalunya stations. From Vilanova you have very frequent trains.
On the way south a warning: the Autovia circle around Barcelona has very, but very heavy traffic!! Look for the signs Tarragona/Valencia. Close to Tarragona is a parking called Puente del Diabolo (Devils Bridge). There is a Roman Aquaeduct to be seen.
Enjoy your trip! |

Depending on where you are staying you are probably better off parking in the nearest car park to your apartment/hotel. Can you add the area of the city where you are staying at least?
Parking is pretty expensive if you are in a secure car park, particularly if you leave the car overnight. For 'free' parking there is some near the beach by the Pavellon Marbella (link below) but very little in the way of on-street parking because many areas now have 'residents only'.
You have 2 options for getting to Barcelona, the N-11 (national highway) and the A7 (motorway and a toll road.). Inevitably the latter is the faster and better road. In either case when you get close to Barcelona you will start to see signs which basically give you 3 choices: Ronda Litoral (the ring road running along the coastal side of the city), Ronda Dalt (around the west/mountain side of the city) and Gran Via (straight through the middle). All these roads obviously have exits and you need to take the right exit for where you are going.
Unless you already paid the full amount of an expensive car hire you may still be better of (from a hassle perspective in particular) cancelling and losing your deposit, than having the hassle and cost of the parking. (Sorry!).
Give us a clue where you will stay and can provide some additional info. |

I second the comments about the car - it makes no sense to look for somewhere to park outside the city centre and then take the metro into Barcelona - you'll pay only slightly less out of the city centre for a car park than inside. Parking on the street in the places you have mentioned is for residents only, or there are a few "blue zones" where you can also park by parking meter. If you're only here a day, then you'll have to pay for the car parks I'm afraid. |
