Cheap places to eat in Madrid?

I will be in Madrid next week and I am on a tight budget. We will be staying near Tirso de Molina metro station. Does anybody know cheap restaurant (less than 12 euros if possible) where we'll be able to get a good meal

Try Finca de Susana (http://www.lafinca-restaurant.com/).

I don't know where they are in Madrid, but find the local covered markets and buy fresh food there for a couple meals. Simple, but tasty fresh food and definitely get the local flavor.

Generally a menu del dia should cost no more than 10 euros and it generally includes two courses and a dessert or coffee, and sometimes a drink. Those or platos combinados are your best bet for value in a restaurant. And if it doesn't come with a drink, as for agua del grifa (tap water), because if you just ask for water they will bring you a bottle and charge you for it. If you want to go really cheap, find your way to Sol (very very close to Tirso de Molina), where there is a Corte Ingles (giant department store that includes a supermarket) and buy bread and ham and cheese, or go to Maoz, where you can get delicious falafel with fresh toppings for under 5 euros.

And if you get really desperate, there is also a McDonald's there.

Yeah. Any place serving a Menú del Día should be serving it for less than 12€! That's a lot for a workman's or ordinary lunch!

Actually, you should be able to get off much less, by just walking into a bar/restaurant and buying a bocadillo and a drink, or getting a tapa or two.

ok, this is coming from some one who doesnt know ALOT but i can guess that the people know where the tourists will be and they target them and put restaurants there so im sure youll have no problem finding good restaurants. also, you might just ask people around there. they must know english, if not, just learn how to say it in spanish and ask some officer or someone who isnt a tourist as well. hope you have a great time!
