Cost of living in Spain?

I'm thinking of teaching English in Spain...it would pay 900 euros a month. I tend to live quite cheaply, but I also want to have money for travel. Is this enough money to get by in Spain and have a little left over? I don't mind sharing an apt. and I don't eat out or party a lot. I'll probably be going to Andalusia but I'd consider other areas as well.

Renting a one bed apt about 400euros, exes gas, electric, and water approx 80/mth,travel buses quite cheap1.20 gets you most places 1.80 train from Malaga to Fuengirola.Taxis to be avoided(mostly licensed bandits)5euro min.Three course menu del dia 4.50 at local chi nee or up to 7 elsewhere.(you can pay more but it's usually the decor you're paying for).I've got to say 900/month is a bare minimum to live on here so I don't you'll be doing too much partying. If you're teaching English at a school, you might consider looking for some telemarketing work in the evening to bolster up your income.Anything to keep the wolf from the door.

Oh the dreams of people who don't know what it's like living in Spain. Sorry but 900 euros is not nearly enough to live decently. if you live anywhere near tourist areas your rent will be at least 400e a month without bills. If however you can share all the better of course. I live in Benidorm and rent for a one bedroom here will be about 600e. It is also true what someone else says about paying tax here, if you are self employed you will pay approx. 260e a month and even if you don't earn anything this money will still have to be paid. I have been self employed for some years so I have personal experience with this. I don't think you will be able to afford to travel either sorry.

The cost of living in Spain has risen a lot since 2003, specially the prices of housing, transportation and food. 900 euros is not going to be enough, specially if you have to pay an apartment, transport and food.

900€ doesn´t sound like a lot of money. That´s only about 1200 US. But I´m not sure how much rents run these days. Everything seemed massively expensive to me.

Andalusia is not very expensive. If you share and appartment, you can spend 200€/month, then you have to eat, lets say 300€/month? And you save some money for travel. 900€/month is not a good pay, but if you know how to save some money, you can live and travel a little.

€900 per month isn´t really enough to live on if you are used to UK home comforts even if you live cheaply. There will be many people in rural Spain living on €900 per month. If you want to live and work in Andalucia and exist on that sort of money then you will need to live well away from the coast. You certainly won´t be able to travel. Having said all of that, you will have to consider whether you want resident status, then you´ll have your taxes to consider. Even being a non resident you still have taxes to pay. There is a tax here called the wealth tax which affects residents and non residents. You should look into this before making decisions on where to stay. Spain is a great country and the cost of living is cheap but not everything is cheap. Electricity is expensive as are televisions. I wish you luck in your venture if you decide to come to Spain.
