Could I make a successful move to Spain? |
I recently was hired as a fedex part-time package handler in Michigan. My plan is to stay with the company for 2 to 3 years and during that time I teach myself to become completely fluent in Spanish. I'm also going to have a 2nd part-time job so I will be able to have at least 10 grand by the time I'm ready to leave. So here is the question. Would I be able to transfer to the fedex location in Barcelona, Spain with 10 grand in the bank, and being able to speak the language fluently, would I be able to live there and have success? I'm currently 21 years old |

As long as you can get work authorization, go for it! If you have some cash to get started (save as much as you can!) and you'll be working, you shouldn't have any problems financially. Barcelona's not terribly expensive and it's pretty easy to find a flat-share.
Regarding the language, keep in mind that in Barcelona they speak Catalan. While you'll definitely should concentrate on Spanish, if you seriously want to live there long term, you'll have to learn Catalan too (shouldn't be difficult once you've picked up Spanish).
Good luck! |

Yes, but check out with the Spanish Consulate as requirements are different for people who work already for a company then get transfers to the same company to the EU, Spain. Good luck you´ll enjoy the quality life style in Spain. |

I'm not sure about the employment laws over here. If you came from Europe there'd be no problem, but you'll need to apply for a work permit. If I came from Spain to the USA to work I'd be refused a work permit, so expect the same here.
$10000 isn't much of a start. That equates to about 7200 euros.
Cost of accommodation in Barcelona won't be cheap either. You are going to need health care whilst in Spain and that will be a drain on that $10000.
As for learning Spanish. Make sure you are not learning Mexican Spanish, that differs from real Spanish.
I'm not trying to be pessimistic but you really need to think hard about this. You could try and make it an extended holiday and see how things go. |
