There is a double decker bus that you can take to the scenic or places of interest.
THe Gaudi stuff has to be the most wonderful!! Its so unique!
There are several places to go, there is of course Sangrada familia and I forget the name of the ""house" which is wonderful.
I only had a day trip there so i didn't see a huge amount of spain. |

Loads of places to go (but avoid the bullfights, please!!).
My recommendations: Gracia, El Born, Eixample, Barceloneta (great for getting a tasty fish meal), the Gaudi architecture, the Barri Gotic, Montjuic.
Also, if you have time to get out of Barcelona, try Girona and Cadaques to the north, and Tarragona and El Priorat to the south (all accessible within 2 hours of driving). Tarragona is packed with Roman architecture.
Have a great time in Barcelona and Catalonia! |

Get your mind boggled by the architecture of La Sagrada Familia ("the holy family"), an extremely impressive cathedral in Barcelona. Go on a bus trip along the Costa Brava. Stop at a bodega for an afternoon of wine and sherry sampling. |

Barcelona has a wealth of cultural and historical sights (the city has 9 UNESCO World Heritage sites) and although you might not think that those kind of things interest you, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
There are also loads of things to do for free in the city (certain museums in the city are free on 1st Saturday and sunday of the month - I know you said no museums, but if they're free, then you should check out the Picasso Museum, at least!).
for a good heads up, look at this guide, which is really informative but brief:

Barcelona hates bullfights. In fact the Council has declared Barcelona a "Anti-bullfight city".
Bufll-fight in Barcelona is a tourist trap, something 95% of we locals utterly disapprove of.
It is not forbidden yet but it will eventually be. The ring is usually half-empty and 70% of the attendance are tourists, most of whom leave disgusted and dizzy of what they have seen.
So please disregard that post of someone who bought a poster of a butcher. |

The number of places to see in Barcelona is so vast, and the travel space in Barcelona so huge, that you should actually use those tourist buses.
I have NEVER been the sort who would take those, but this one was worth it, just in saving our feet. We did the Eixample.
That house..actually, there are two that are considered the best and can be toured...La Pedrera (or Casa Milá) and Casa Batlló. Sagrada Familia, Camp Nou, the Olympic grounds, the beach, Port Vell, Ciutadell and Montjuic, the Cathedral, and Barrà Gotic, Boqueria, Las Ramblas. Enough for you? NO MUSEUMS? But there are so many! And such good ones! What about the Chocolate Museum? Palau Musica.
So, if you run out of things to do, there are all the possible day trips! Wine country, hiking, amusement and water parks (in season), small towns, castles, etc.
Madrid? There are really only a few must sees in my point of view, there. But there are TONS of things you might be interested in...Best bets for Madrid, get a really good guide book...I like DK Eyewitness...It will make you want to see EVERYTHING, but you can pick and choose. |
