Bullfighting in Spain is still alive in well throughout Spain, going on a couple thousand years now, I'd say. Some regions have more of a tradition than others but it exists in all areas to one degree or another.
Recent legislation did not include bullfighting in the cruelty-to-animals laws in Spain. Money and tradition talks.
And yes, the bull always dies at the hand of the bullfighter with one exception; when the bull is lame and found not "worthy" of the bullfighter's sword. In this case, the a number of trained steers help escort the bull out of the ring - only to be slaughtered shortly thereafter.

Yeah. At bullrings all over the country. On Sundays and holidays from Spring through Summer until Fall.
More in Andalucia than other parts of the country.
And, yes, they kill the bulls. |

"All over Spain". What a lie! In northern Spain bullfighting is not a tradition but an "acquired custom". Bullfighting is typical from Castile and Andalusia, and yes, they kill the bull. In places like Galicia there is only one bullring. In Catalonia they never had corridas until the big andalusian migration on 1960's. I am from the catalan-speaker strip in Aragon, and we have NEVER had a bullfighting "spectacle".
In Spain still there are bullfights, but it's anecdotic. In the major part of the country they do it only one week in a year, during the "fiestas mayores". In some territories there are not any bullfight.
Recent polls say that more than the 80 per cent of spanish have not any interest on bullfighting. Cities like Barcelona or Girona are declared by themselves as "antitaurinas" (against bullfights).

They do still have bullfights in Spain during the Spring & Fall months. Most Spanish cities have a bullring. I have been to one bullfight and was surprised at what I saw. It is a very old artistic tradition in Spain. The bull is killed very quickly and later butchered for meat. It really is not as bad as some people make it out to be. Normally six young bulls are brought in for the fight. They are each brought out and usually are in the ring no longer than half an hour. The matador is judged by the crowd by how quickly and efficiently he makes the kill. If it is not done quickly and humanly the crowd will show their dislike. |

Sadly, yes. But they are rare and a lot of cities like Barcelona have declared themselves 'antitaurinas', meaning they do not support bullfighting. A lot of Spaniards are against them or aren't interested in them, so there aren't many, except during major festivals. |
