Been to Tenerife once before....hated it.......its full of fecking Chav scum........apart from the usual "englishman abroad" group (Stella drinkers, football shirt wearers, bacon sandwich eaters) it was ok..........went up Mount Tede, which was quite cool.......otherwise it was a sh1thole. |

I've been to Tenerife, too British, and Gran Canaria, (Porto Rico) and I really liked it there. Relaxed and friendly, lovely weather etc, and good bars and restaurants. The Canarian potatoes are Delicious.
However, I would also like to say how wonderful the doctors and nurses are over there. My step dad was taken very ill while there in January, and the staff in the hospitals were excellent, there is no way he would have got nearly half as good the treatment as he got over there. In fact he was operated on within 2 days of going to the doctor, over here (In Ireland) he would either still be waiting to see the doctor, or waiting on bed to get in to the hospital. So a big THANK YOU to everyone over there who helped us so much.
Gracia's (I hope I spelt that correctly) |

Only Tenerife - and I found it to be very un-Spanish. Majority of people we other Brits, and all they want to eat is chips or burgers, all I wanted to eat was tapas or Spanish food but couldn't find anywhere to eat it. Not impressed at all, other than with the price - cheap. |

I have been to Gran Canaria and the resort of Puerto Rico. It has its own microclimate and was extremely warm in October. The resort was nice as was the beach at the next resort along the coast. The only downside was the shops where you were followed everywhere by the staff who became a nusiance by pestering you every minute not leaving you to browse at will. The people were friendly and will hopefully return one day. |

The Canary Islands consist of seven islands which are divided into two provinces. Las Palmas comprises the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is made up of Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro. All the islands are of volcanic origin and the climate is subtropical. The landscape is varied, and includes mountain ranges, valleys, deserts, cliffs, craters and forests. See http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/balearic_canary/map_balearic_canary.html for map |

Yes I have been to the Canaries around 15-17 times in the last 11 years and love it. The food is outstanding especially the fish, canarian potatoes and mojo sauce. The only other place I have enjoyed more was San Sebastian and that was for the tapas.I love the spanish culture and especially the people who are so warm and don't laugh when I try to speak the language. |
