Do you know any great sites for info on Gran Canaria? Or can you answer my questions? |
I've never been to Gran Canaria but am thinking of booking in Playa Del Ingles.
I have googled and have found some sites with general info but does anyone know any good sites with really detailed info about the best places to go, things to do, photos and maps?
If not, you might know the answers to my questions anyway....
What is there for couples to do who aren't into the 18 - 30s scene? In the evening are there quieter bars, ice cream parlours, shops open late etc?
Do they sell Kas Naranja in GC?
What is the best way to take your money? When I was last in Spain we took Euro travellers cheques and everywhere charged a high comission to cash them but there was no comission charge on sterling cash or cheques!
Can you easily get from PDI to La Palma by bus? Do you know what Bus? Same question for Aqualand Aquasur.
Do they sell designer style bags / sunglasses cheaply?
Where can I get a detailed map with all hotels and attractions marked on it?
Thanks Additional Details Thanks re the holiday review websites. I have had a look on those to check out the hotel I'm thinking of booking but they don't have sections with reviews purely on the resorts - or have I missed them?
Thanks for the suggestion of PR but I'm keen on PDI because it's such a huge resort so there must be plenty to do and also, I've found a really good deal and I'm just trying to get a bit of info before I book. |

theres a website called holidays uncovered and holiday truths .com they tell you about your accomodation and the resort and what it has to offer and people give their views but dont always take into account if someone gives a bad review as everyone is looking for different things on a holiday hope this helps and have a great holiday |

Go to puerto rico its the best place on the island. the hotels range from 2 star to 5star and theres a variation of different shops, a massive late night shopping center and lots of restaurants. theres also a harbour and its great for walks and it offers allsorts of fishing/boat trips! Have a fantastic time whereever you decide to go and dont forget to come back with my pressie! xx |

Have been to Gran Canaria a couple of times but don't know any websites, however to answer your questions:
I stayed in Maspalomas - it's quieter but close enough to Playa Del Ingles for night life. Most of the shops in Playa Del Ingles are open until 10pm to get souveniers, drinks etc.
There are some really nice restaurants and if you go out early (around 7pm) you will miss the crowds and hopefully the "bar promoters".
Not sure what Kas Naranja is... Orange Juice??
If you have a link/cirrus ATM card there are plenty of bank machines - might be easier than travellers cheques.
Buses go to both places. Bus will depend on where you are staying.
Plenty of places to get the bags and sunglasses - look for any of the many 'Centre Commercial' around PDI. There is one that I remember definitely had bags - thinks it's the Kasbah.
I picked up a map when I got there but try this one http://www.canaryforum.com/gc/pdi.html
Hope this helps! |

i live in PDI in GC. yes the sell kas naranja. take travellers cheques. everything designer all you can imagine very cheap prices. ther are 14 centro commercials (plces full of bars and clubs) easy to get bus from PDI to las palmas great shopping up there. aquasur u get bus from PDI 10 min journey. bus 90 for las pamas and aquasur i thin is the 70 or45 its esty to find out from your hotel reception, there are lovely places for people not into the mad nightlife, one place i can truelly recommend is Costa Gabbana in Meloneras its fantastic relaxed high class bar serving norml drinks and the best cocktails on the island. website to try maspalomas tonight.com or puertoricotonight.com. to be honest prefer PDI its better than PR. any other Q's send my way.XXX |

Hi, We stayed in Playa Del Ingles and there are loads of bars, restaurants (some Seafront), shops etc. There is an area called KASBAH where you'll find the all the above plus more, nearby there's a shopping centre METRO, (which resembles an indoor market) all within walking distance.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR HOTEL BEFORE BOOKING!!! We were a group who booked, not knowing that it was a 'Twenties' holiday, which was not too bad as it included many activities...AT AN EXTRA COST (revealed when you get there) but we found that the hotel also accepted bookings from older couples who OBVIOUSLY wanted a quieter place to stay!!! So don't get caught out.
OH AND BE CAREFUL OF THE 'PROSTITUTES' IN THE AREA, both male & female. They hang about near to the KASBAH CENTRE at night or on the beaches in the day. They're not dangerous, but 'challenging' and WILL pick pockets or try the odd scam. This is a hot country (can't walk on the sand) and generally a really nice place.
I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves! |
