Do you think its safe to go to Spain? |
My friend is from Spain, her whole family is from there. She moved there this year to complete a semester of school over there, she invited me to go visit her this summer.
After the recent airplane crash, do you think it would be safe? I'll go in about a year, but im still worried.
I also just watched vantage point last night, which takes place in spain.
i really wanna go but i dont wanna get hurt.
BTW im in high school, so im not some like chicken 40 year old |

You are going to have a wonderful time in Spain. Trust me. Usually teenagers really enjoy visits to Spain.
But don't worry too much about safety while you're in Spain. I'm sure your friend will fill you in on anything about which you should be concerned. I imagine you'll be with her always anyway. Just take care of the details like not leaving your purse on the floor, not leaving your purse open/unzipped, not leaving cash in your back pocket or an open pocket, etcetera. There's very little concern for "safety", really.
So put your worries aside and enjoy yourself. Talk with your friend before going. I'm sure she'll tell you the same thing. I doubt she's having any problems either.

I'm Spanish from Madrid. I live just 20 minutes from Barajas Airport, where the plane crashed. I really find a bit silly to think is not safe to come here just because of a plane crash when daily there are flights from Barajas every 4 minutes. I think is like if someone said is not safe to go to the United States because of the hurricanes.
Just come here and you'll never regret. I'm sure your friend has already told you that you're gonna love Spain. |

Please don't be scared by a freak accident that could happen anywhere in the world. The crash here in Spain was a huge tragedy for the people of Spain and the Canary Islands, and any other country that had family and friends aboard. Flying by plane is much safer statistically than most other forms of transport. You are more likely to be struck by lightning than being in a plane crash. Spain is a fantastic country, so enjoy :) |

Perfectly safe to go to Spain. Planes operating as normal. Would you be scared to catch a plane at home? Or a bus - have you seen Speed? Accidents happen. |

We went in May and it was awesome! You should take appropriate travel precautions, like you would visiting anywhere- ie not flashing around money, leaving valuables in plain sight, etc. Also, if you dress like a European, you won't be noticed as a tourist (as much). There are risks associated with leaving your front door. I wouldn't worry about Vantage Point- it's a movie. |

It's NOT safe. I'm from there and I eat tourists, so be careful!

There were more people killed on the roads today in Europe, but I doubt that will stop you going in a car, or cycling somewhere or even crossing the road.
There must have been hundreds of thousands of flights in the world and one crashes. It's a tragedy but not something you should worry about or change lifestyle over. |

In the past 15 days i have flown to the Canary Islands twice from Madrid and once from Barcelona all with Spanair and there have been no problems (otherwise i wouldn't be writing this). I regularly use different airlines to fly throughout Spain and there really isnt anything to worry about.
The crash that happened in Madrid was a one off accident. |

Spain is safe. Just use common sense and don't run off by yourself in the middle of the night since you're of high school age.
My parents are from Spain and I've gone quite a bit on my own since I was 18. And when I was a lot younger I flew every other year to Spain with my parents since I was born but took off to play with cousins etc.
It is safe because its Europe. But remember...its still like the USA. Use common sense. Stay with friends. Know your way around. Make sure your friend is there to pick you up at the airport.
You will have a great time. Just always be with your friends. Have her number and wherever you're staying addtress in your pocket in case you get separated.

Yes. It is pretty safe in Spain as long as you are smart. I mean, don't go walking around Madrid with a fanny pack, tennis shoes, and binoculars. I'm 16 and I spent 3 1/2 weeks of my summer in Spain. I was with my school, but for 2 weeks we went to school at the University of Salamanca (in Salamanca, where Vantage Point takes place.) We lived with a family during that time, and it was pretty much just me and my roommate kind of on our own (roommate was my best friend!) There were times when we had to walk home at like 3 AM because we couldn't get a taxi, and we were fine. The Spainair plane crash was an accident. Accidents happen. Vantage point is a movie. It was complete fiction. (P.S. most of the street scenes were filmed in Mexico. Only some of the birds eye stuff and all of the plaza stuff was filmed in Salamanca.) Spain is the most amazing place in the world. I'd definitely go visit her. Just use your brain and be careful in touristy areas, because that's were most pickpockets and etc. happens. I hope you decide to go! :) |

I'm a brave 40 year old, but when I was your age, or a few years older, there was a HUGE crash in Chicago. I was getting ready to go to Spain in a year, and, in fact, wound up on the same model plane. I asked the attendant that I talked to on the phone about it, and he said that that model plane was so incredibly well serviced because of the accident, that I had nothing to worry about. It went fine. I'm still here today, and any injuries, well, not related to THAT, anyway.
Seriously, air travel is one of the safest ways to do anything. Accidents and plane crashes happen, and they get HUGE press when they do. But they are really sOOOO rare, and honestly, that is the LAST thing you need to worry about. Are you, seriously, going to allow yourself to be paralyzed, to never go ANYWHERE, simply because something might go wrong?
You DO realize that more accidents happen in your own home than anywhere else? Do NOT allow a little fear, which you will eventually realize is not that big a possibility, to keep you from having this wonderful adventure!!!!
Go!!! have fun!!! Don't worry! The worrying alone will kill you, and then you won't have had ANY fun in your life! now wouldn't THAT be a tragedy? Have fun. Travel safely, and enjoy! (and take a good camera! You'll want the pictures years from now, or you won't remember anything!) |
