Do you visit Barcelona(Spain), if you know that the the City Council ignore the life of 500 cats?

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/713227854
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-500-cats-in-barcelona-spain.html

More than 500 abandoned cats live on land where the construction of the high speed train tracks between Madrid and Barcelona will soon begin. The cats suffer from cold, hunger and mistreatment, and the City Council of Barcelona hasn't done anything to resolve this problem. Many cats have been killed in the course of earlier public projects in Barcelona, and we want to avoid another massacre. However, the City council has ignored our petition and the local media sarcastically claim that the cats live happily along this route and that are other more important things for the local council to discuss. If we can't get concrete promise to create controlled cat colonies and to do TN"R" (trap-neuter-"return to safe places") soon, most of the cats will be killed by the construction works or by the insensible people who poison these poor animals.

Do you visit Barcelona?

Feral cats are a danger to public health.

They should not be 'returned'.to foul the streets.

There is a serious problem in Spain and in the UK with people dumping unwanted pets. In Spain there is substantial pre-holiday season publicity to ask people not to do so.

How many feral and pet cats are killed every year by the live rail on London's railways?

Look to your own country before trying to re-colonise the world.

I can't stand people that feed feral cats and strays. They spread disease and are vicious things when approached. You should not be trying to save them, they should be humanly put down. Where I lived South Alicante there was always rotting food attracting flies and bugs, that some KIND soul had left out for the strays, don't encourage them I say.

SunnyDays
Feral cats should be culled and destroyed, they serve no purpose but to cost the country and city money. Where we live there are ferals and they are a pain in the ****, they try to get into open properties and crap everywhere, when its sunny the outside stinks of cat mess, unhygeinic and disgusting. The problem is the same worldwide and unless someone has the guts to do what is really needed, there will always be a problem, being a fluffy lover is not the answer. Yes, I do like cats, and yes I have a dog, I am a pet lover but one sitting in the real world!

I think that your cause is admirable, and no I wouldn't (as i'd end up trying to bring all the kitties home to live with my two kitties and be loved and cared for), but i also think that this is the wrong site for you to be posting it on.

Petition signed and i hope it's successful.

You do know that the only solution to these feral cats would be to put them all down, don't you! What does your petition ask the City Council to do? Find them nice homes? Get real!
They have bullfights in Spain, and Spain does not have a great record with animal welfare. You want them to worry about feral cats! I don't think that is going to happen, no matter how many Brits you get to sigh the petition. By the way, Barcelona is a lovely city, cats or no cats.

Many cities in Spain suffer problems from feral cats. I guess many countries have this problem. I stayed a winter in Benalmadena on a boat, and there were loads of cats living in amongst the rocks which formed the major breakwater. As someone pointed out already, they are a nuisance and a danger to public health. Most are diseased and carry all sorts of other parasites. I understand some of your concerns when it comes to culling, but it is also cruel to allow these cats to proliferate when they are obviously unwanted and apart from a few 'do-gooding' tourists who pop up for a week or two and then disappear home again.
I don't mean to sound cruel here, but really the best would be if they were humanely put down instead of suffering as they inevitably do. Sometimes the best thing is not always the most popular.
