Nothing too touristy, please.

If I were you I wouldn't take the train. Benidorm and Barcelona are not connected by the same rail network so that you'd have to go all the way to Alicante. Then cross this city by foot? taxi? bus? (I did by foot once and it takes like 30 minutes with no luggage) Then take the "TRAM" from the Alacant - La Marina station to Benidorm. I'm sorry I cannot check the train schedule from Barcelona to Alicante 'cause the RENFE server is down but it won't take less than 5 hours .
So, I strongly recommend going by coach. There are 3 services a day leaving Barcelona/Sants Coach station at 01:15, 07:15 and 17:20. 7 hours later you are in the center of Benidorm (Avenida de Europa). The TRAM station is further. Prices are also much cheaper than train. One way costs 34,30€ (40$)

The nearest station to Benidorm is Apeadero. For train times try http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e (It's the German Railways site, but with English pages)
