Does any one know much about the murcia area of spain?

would it be a nice place to live

Show all answers

Oh No!!!!!!!
I have lived on the Costa Blanca for two years now, and i can tell you that Murcia is a beautiful place to live.
If you are thinking of living out here, don't buy a property right away.
By renting a property first, you will save thousands of pounds by simply looking around.
If you rented an apartment you will pay around 100/120 euros per week.
If you saw a property that you liked say for 100.000 pounds in a estate agents, you can go direct to the actual owner and cut out the estate agents.
Just by cutting out the estate agent could save you about 8000 pounds on the above price.
Good luck!!

Murcia city, capital of Murcia province in SE Spain, on the Segura River. The city lies in one of the finest irrigated garden regions in Spain see http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/places/murcia.htm

I have lived there and it's a great place to live but , as everywhere, it depends what you want. If you ask precise questions you may be able to narrow down your choice.

Hi,you dont say whether you are interested as a holiday visit or purchasing property. If its a holiday Murcia has a lot to offer with some excellent beach resorts, and inland some great scenery and some very Spanish villages. If you are thinking of buying, its not all doom and gloom as an earlier writer flunky was portraying,it is all about common sense.i do agree with an early answer, that you should spend a little time out here first and look around, until you see what you like, and if you find somewhere, use a good lawyer (reccomended) and you will have no more risk than buying in england.
I have been out here 6 years and love it,of course its not perfect where is ,but its as close as it can get for me .email me if you would like any help.

You would have to get over here, but have you really looked into this? Are you looking to buy as a holiday home or to live here? If a holiday home, Murcia will be fine, to live here, forget it! There are so many properties up for sale, many been up over 12 months, there is no money and very low unemployment, so to find a job or set up a business is very difficult indeed. There is a recession here, its just at the beginning, but by next summer, it will be terrible here. So many places are struggling to survive, bars and restuarants are nowhere near as busy as they were two years ago. this summer was so very quiet, nowhere near the number so tourists from other years. Taxes are going up and the utilities are crap, no choices of provider and poor service with some in new areas waiting years to have a telephone. If you are thinking of living here, really think about it, take some time to rent a place for 6-12 months before deciding to move or not, its not like a long holiday....
One also has to bear in mind the land grab issue has reared up in Murcia as well, and there are some serious links with estate agents in Murcia with the Marbella town hall scandal, where backhanders were given left right and centre for planning permissions and to launder money, be very very careful.
Also, always remember when looking at the price of a home here, to purchase, you must allow and extra 15% to cover taxes, the price you see is not the price you pay...

I have visited there. It is a lovely place to visit and would be ideal for a nice place to live as long as you want to enjoy a true Spanish lifestyle. There are some good shops and many decent amenities including a cinema. There is ample parking and you can get to the main coastal road easily.
I would recommend going there on a holiday before you choose to live there. It will be a great holiday for you.
