Look you will want to stay on Ramblas, just tell whoever you get a ride from Ramblas, its the party area, and you can walk down to the docks where there are even more clubs. I like to use Expedia.com, this way you can compare prices. I looked for prices during High Season, like the middle of August. You can find something on Ramblas for around 50 dollars per night for two people.

When I went, I just walked around... went to three different hotels and picked the cheapest. At the time, the hostels were fully-booked, otherwise... that's your best bet.

I stayed at Hotel Jazz for EUR100, and I was very pleased with the room and the service.
The location is great, near Plaça Catalunya and Las Rambles.
Metro stop a block away (in front of a Starbuck)
