The Palau Nacional is situated in a unique setting: Montjuïc, the mountain of museums, leisure and sport, well on the way to becoming an area of culture and life.

Near the Plaça d'Espanya, above the Exhibition Grounds, at the top of a wide flight of steps, stands the giant domed Palau Nacional. The palace was originally built for the World Exhibition of 1929. Leading up to the Palau Nacional is the Magic Fountain. From June through September the site is a spectacle of light, water, color, and music.

The Museu d'Art de Catalunya covers with its collections all periods of the history of Catalan art. The Department of Gothic Art with its collections is not limited to Catalonia, but also includes works from many other artists, from other areas of Spain, and from the Spanish Netherlands.
