Driving in Spain?

Planning a trip to Spain and I found out I can save $400 if I flew directly into Madrid. However , I need to go to Alicante .
I know the ride is approx 4 hours but how are the roads there ? Is it easy to drive ?

I have driven all over Spain. The major motorways are quite good, similar to interstates in the US. From Madrid to Alicante you travel on all major motorways, you should hae no problem. Taking a train would proably be cheaper than renting a car, however, but would take longer.

Driving in Spain is not bad at all. The main thing to remember is that the motorways are often toll roads. However by sticking to the old motorways you can get to where you want to be just as easily and a lot cheaper.

The Spanish don't sit in the middle lane. If they need to overtake they do so and then pull back in so you don't get stuck behind people going half a mile faster than the lorry they are taking 15 mins to get past!! (personal bug bear sorry).

The one thing you do need to look out for though is people pulling out in front of you. Oh and if you want to go the wrong way on a one way street, want to have a chat to your friend or want to stop on a roundabout just stick your hazard lights on!!

Seriously though it is no better or worse than anywhere else in Europe and you don't get the jams like you do in the UK.

Yes, as long as you drive fast and not giving a damn about other drivers and on the wrong - errr, left.
