Furniture removals to spain? |
I am moving to Costa de la luz Spain in Feb next year. As I am renting my house out furnished in the uk I do not need to move a great deal of stuff over. But as we are renting a place for a year or two I would like to take over a suite, a few other bits of furniture and personal belongings. Can anyone recommend the best way of doing this, or recommend a removal company? |

When i moved from the UK to Spain, I Did it myself. I hired a small Lorry, Booked a space on the Bilbao Ferry,(Portsmouth to Bilbao) and drove through Spain. The Total cost was around 1,500 pounds. It was the cheapest way to move, at the time,But It was also a great adventure.
Removal Companies are very Expensive. The only other way, is to book space in a container. |

I have just done a part load to BCN using Pickfords.
Everything went perfectly. Everything arrived in perfect order. Great service at both ends.BUT they were expensive but I suppose you have to pay for superior service.
I've done the van thing in the past. The problem is finding a safe place to leave the van overnight - we used a parador. That sort of ruined the cheap budget, but it was fun. |

I agree with ladywoodboy, don't bother to take anything unless you can't live without it. Removal firms are expensive generally but charge by the cubic metre so if it's only a small load it could be ok. However, do you want to drag it there, and then if you want to return, drag it all the way back again? Most of the companies are about the same price and beware of man and van types, a friend of mine tried one and it was very bad, they didn't even have insurance to carry other peoples stuff (very important). Make sure whoever you use they have full credentials for the job otherwise your stuff could go missing. (Heard alot of that too) |

My way would be to get rid of all your excess furniture before you go , and buy secondhand/new stuff over there, it will be less stressful and could work out cheaper! |

We used Pickfords and they were great. I was very surprised how low the price was. I´ll give you a link to their website. You can get a non obligatory quote. They were very helpful to us and very efficient. We live on the Costa Del Sol.
