Going on holiday - barcelona or malaga?

me and some friends (we're 18) are going on holiday either to malaga or to barcelona and staying in a youth hostel. The prices are very similar for either holiday, but i heard that things like food are very expensive in barcelona.

Is this true, and are they significantly more expensive than malaga? Also which place has the best beaches / night life ?

Thanks xxxx

Barcelona!

Much better nightlife, cheap food (if you know where to look for it, such as some places in Porto Olimpico) and the people are much much nicer.

Malaga is boring beach town with rude people.

I would suggest Barcelona. The city has amazing architecture, very nice beaches and every little neighborhood there has its own character. Also the night life is amazing and there is something happening every day of the week. http://www.guestlistbcn.com/ this is a website where you can sign up to be on the guest lists and enter for free.
For food, i would advise strongly against eating in the major tourist areas and places where they have pictures of the food (its been frozen and does not taste good).
and if you ever get tired of the Barcelona beaches you can alway hop on a train and go another town close to Barcelona like Sitges, Tarrangona or Balnes. All very beautiful and different from each other.

I can't imagine why someone could say there are rude people in Malaga. People from the South are known for being extremely funny, nice and charming. Please, note that I'm from Madrid, in the middle. I've been there many times and, believe me, if you want "fiesta", that's the place. Wonderful beaches.

Madrid and Barcelona are actually more expensive than the rest. And ask about Barcelona to the rest of Spain.

no idea what koenraad is talking about!
the people in malaga are quite friendly (given that its a big city, and most big cities are not friendly places)
barcelona, on the other hand is great fun, as long as you are aware that they really, really, really want your money!!

malaga for me

by the way, if you do decide on barca, don't even think about eating a meal in one of the restaurants out in the port on that sort of island. the worst restaurant, worst service, worst food, worst rip-off i've ever known in my life. the only restaurant in fifty one years where i've refused to pay, and walked out.
they didn't even argue because they knew how bad it was!!
