I would suggest staying by las ramblas....that's where i stayed and it was very excessable to the barcelona culture

The streets of Barcelona are alive by day or night, providing the a safe place for strolling around, whether for shopping, eating or simply passing the time of day. There is also 1 mile long city beach with clean soft sand, ideal for sun bathing.

Seek out a bar/ club called "Sidecar" in the Plaza Real. Great live music. Also, for dinner go to "Quinze Nits"- it's in the same corner of Plaza Real as Sidecar- get there early for dinner and join the queue- they don't do bookings, but queueing is worth it for genuine Catalan food at a decent price in a lovely setting.

Just walk up and down the main drag. (La Rambla) There are restaurants galore, street entertainers, bars etc. Barcelona is a truly wonderful experience, but a weekend is way to short. It is my favourite European city by a very long way. Take a deep breath and prepare to become an addict. Have fun.

Find any local tapas bar sit down and have some jamon with cheese, some morthia, olives, fried sardines, with some cold beer or vino tinto. In some places sooner or later you will get some dude playing the acostic guitar playing some flamenco riffs. Then after ramble down to the ramblas and watch the people, nothing like it.

Any of the restuarants along the Ramblas are overpriced. Flahertys (off the Ramblas, port end) does a good breakfast for around â‚¬7. Themed pubs(there are 30 plus irish bars) can be expensive, small spanish bars with Damm Lager â‚¬3 a pint. As with any city pickpocketing is common and taxis after 2am ar hard come by, class city, have been there 3 times and plan to return. Bagdad Cafe is expensive to get into but is a mental nights entertainment not for the prudish type

Gaudi's works Casa Mila, the Sagrada Familia and the Park Guell are fantastic, so I wouldn't miss those!
I'd recommend trying some of the restaurants down the side streets off the Rambla de Catalunya, as these often have better food as well as better value for money than the touristy ones on Las Ramblas.
Ps. Try the Paella, it's delicious!

Sightseeings - Sagrada Familia and Park Guell with sculpture gardens are fine examples of Gaudi's architecture. The guy certanly had an out-of-this-world imagination! Also spend some time in Barrio Gottic, the area just off Ramblas and admire the buildings.
Eat and drink - areas around La Ramblas, but avoid the places located right on Ramblas, they are normally overpriced and the service is not too great. They know they will always have customers, therefore they don't care if you leave the place happy with their food and service or not.

Port Olympics is the place where most of the nightclubs are concentrated, they have indoor areas as well as outdoor terraces facing the beach.

Take care of your belongings, i.e. bags and cameras. There is theft, some people were mugged in Barcelona too. It would be wise to keep your wallet in an inner pocket of your jacket.

There is a bar called Tommy the Tank, servers up drinks that are awful.
Try tappas, they made me sick.
Go to the main plaza, plenty of action there, also take plenty euros
