Going to Spain....need advice? |
I want to go to Spain and see if i can find a job and stay thier for a while. I want to know if it is possible that I can just pack and get there and find a place to saty or must I plan because I am not much of a planner. Is the people friendly there? Do you think you can get something good out of it going there and staying in a foriegn countrry for a while? Are there english speakers or are they all just spanish speakers? Any advice are welcome! |

You should plan. The people are friendly, but you should learn to speak spanish. You can live there for 90 days with your passport, but you have to show the airport that you have sufficient funds. Also, after 90 days you have to get an international work visa. In the big cities there are english speakers but not hardly at all in smaller places. Madrid and Barcelona has english speakers. There are always hostels to stay at but they can be sketchy, so i suggest you make some hotel reservations at least for the first week or so. If you are a student or young there are some programs that are work abroad programs that you can get set up with...i highly suggest it! Search yahoo for work abroad programs in spain. |

I've lived in Madrid for about 4 months and I loved it. However I didn't go through a lot of struggles because I was there with branch of a US University and anytime I had questions about anything I had a support system to help me out. Now, I don't know how easy it is or how hard it is to seek help of someone who speaks english and can direct you somewhere. There are people who speak english however I noticed that a lot of Spanish people do not like speaking english and they will often ignore you. If you will try speaking spanish they'll be much more friendlier. Also, it's quite popular for english speakers to go to "intercambio" meetings. The idea is that a person who speaks enlish is paired up with a person who speaks spanish and they talk to each other teaching one another about their language, culture, etc. It's a great way to meet foregners. That's all I can think for now ... have a great trip! |
