Going to spain..need help adjusting? |
Im going to spain for the whole summer for school. I got a message from my "spanish madre" (im staying at her house) saying that I can only take 5 minute showers and i cannot go too her songs and hers part of the house.
How do i adjust to 5 minute showers and other nicks she added?

I agree with Jane that you should make sure your agency can take care of you. I think it's normal for someone to want some privacy, but make sure you have access to everything you should (I would want access to a kitchen/ refrigerator, but as I long as I had a little space I would be fine). But she sounds a little strict. Not sure what "i cannot go too her songs" means.
Showers of 5 minutes were long when I was in Spain in the 90s. Since then, they've adopted some of our bad habits. It's really better for the environment to take short shorter showers. I solved this a few years ago by buying a kitchen timer to remind myself.
Madrid is wonderful. See the big 3 art museums (some of the best in Europe), the Palacio Real, and there's a wonderful little church with Goya frescoes called La Eremita de San Antonio de la Florida. Take day trips to Segovia, Toledo, the Escorial. Try to travel in Spain, particularly Andalucia early, before it gets too hot. The Cathedral and Alcazaba in Sevilla, La Mezquita in Cordoba, and the Alhambra in Granada. If you have the budget and time, fly to Barcelona. You'll make friends and find more adventures as when you get there. But those are the places I'd start. |

It really isn't that bad having to adjust to 5 min showers...I went to Europe for only a month in August..hottest month...and I had to take showers that quickly and adjust to new foods. I was sort of resistant to change but eventually it became better. |

I don't think Madrid is in drought right now.
Make sure that there's a good reason for her limits.
And make sure the organization you are going with is going to take care of you. I knew people when I was living there who wound up in a situation that was abysmal! You wouldn't want to be told you have to stay with someone who is horrid!
Good luck! Check to see if this woman has a reputation for being super-cheap and only interested in making as much as she can, with no regard for you. |
