HELP! Spain advice needed. Flying 2 gerona airport in nov, 2 kids 2 and 4.?

summer season ended, where is a suitable place at that time of year. been told lloret de mar is yuk, some say it's good..confused on what to do? we have an am flight arr and late flight dep from gerona. would like to b in the middle, somewhere where we can get 2 barcelona easily without loads of travel and also b able to visit other places 2. thinking of all inclusive as everything is paid for, then we have the option if we want 2 go out and eat. all views welcome, this is driving me mad! mostly need something 4 the kids 2 do as they r very young and could get bored of grown up stuff!. so anyone out there with young kids and been 2 spain let me know. seen some nice hotels on a website where kids go free, but worried that all the facilities will not b available as season ended.
just don't want 2 b 2 far away from airport. also transfers, is it better to book b 4 or just when u get there, which is less exensive? TA ALL

Stayed in Tossa de mar in May, which is about half an hour from Girona Airport and about an hour away from Barcelona (if you use a hire-car). A fantastic coastal resort which is also a fully functional town and not just for tourists i.e has plenty of supermarkets and modern shops and restaurants and the travel agent there sells tickets for excursions etc. Have been to Lloret and its more suited to people who enjoy pub crawls and clubbing and lacks any spanish character, much like most of the other resorts on the Costa Brava.

We stayed at the Golden Bahia de Tossa, which is an excellent 4* Hotel set in a residential area 10 mins walk from the beach and 5 mins from the main shopping areas. If you want a smaller hotel there are loads, but you may not get an indoor pool. Type in the name of the resort and you will find a number of websites where you can find available accomodation. Our hotel has its own website.

As for transfers, unless you have a transfer included when you find a good deal, its just as easy to take a taxi, which is about 40 euros.

good luck.

I'd love to answer your question as we travele xtensively with our little boy but I just can't understand it. Try putting it in English instead of text language, maybe add a few capital letters at the beginning of setences, and we might be able to get to end without getting a headache.

Hello I am American living in Spain for 3 years. You don't want to stay in LLoret de Mar cheesy, drunk foreigners. Stay in Barcelona, tons of places. Not in Las Ramblas or Raval area. Tons of things for kids to do Montijuic, Park Guell, Tibidado, check out things to do in Barcelona on the web. Barcelona is the better place to be centrally located. When you have to leave, there is a train or bus you can take to Girona, you don't want to travel back and forth everday, it's over an hour away.

Hi a.s.
You've obviously decided to go to a hotel, so I will try to help, by suggesting you look at Calella its 50k north of Barcelona and trains run every half hour and its 45k south of Gerona airport, and it is a lovely beach for the kids. If you look on line you will find several hotels there. Good luck.

I agree with the person above, November will be a bit cold to enjoy the Costa Brava. I wouldn't bother going to the beach at that time of the year, unless you are extremely lucky and get very good weather. I think the best thing would be to stay in Barcelona because there are a lot of things to do there all year round. Girona is a nice but small town, certainly worth spending a day walking around, but not more than that. You can also think about going to Port Aventura in Tarragona, it's a theme park about an hour from Barcelona, the kids will certainly enjoy that, but it's probably expensive (never been there myself)

I always stay in Calella when I go our of season, it's easy to get to Barcelona by train, they run regularly, are reasonably priced (unlike ours) and are generally clean (unlike ours!). That time of year there won't be many touristy things open, you will probably end up spending most of your time in Barcelona which will be fine for adults but the little ones might get fed up. There is the zoo and park, it's quite big and you could probably stretch that out to a full day, an aquarium which will only fill a couple of hours, there's a cable car which crosses the marina and of course the open top bus tours where you can visit Neu Camp and the Olympic Village and Stadium. Of the few pubs that will still be open in Calella, I can recommend Alcatraz, resonably priced and very welcoming. I've only flown once to Gerona and that was on a package tour, I always fly into Barcelona and then get the train into resort, this only costs about £4. I would probably pre-book a transfer from Gerona, it did seem to be quite a way out and you don't want to be stranded there if you are delayed arriving.

Nothing will be opened in November, my cousin lives in Lloret and she closes up end October to March. November in Spain can be very cold and has been know to snow. most of the cafes and restaurants are closed at that time, I would think again about Gerona and choose somewhere a bit warmer, maybe teneriff.

Be prepared. Spain is a country know for it's theft. Keep your wallet in your front pocket.
