I live a little way down the coast from Tossa de mar. It's a nice place, not as crowded as Calella or Lloret but there are still enough things to keep you busy. the old town is very nice and there are various hotels and campsites there. If you want a break from the 'tourists' i recommend hiring a car or a scooter and driving up the coast a little where you can find lots of nice little bays. If you have a car you can visit Girona or Barcelona for the day.

A great place to visit. Hope you have a good time.

Tossa is very pretty and the old town is typically old Spain. Pandora and the Flying dutchman was filmed their decades ago and after this it became very popular. I have also posted the English website for Tossa. You will have a great time.

The 1st answer is correct, it's a very pretty little town that has managed to retain it's character but also has a bit of life in it.
The coast road going north is a spectacular with 14km of pretty much unspoilt typical Costa Brav (rugged) coast. Marc Chagal lived there in the 1930's when it was just a tiny fishing village and he believed he had found the 'perfection of blue'... if you go there you'll understand what he meant. It has a small art museum with a couple of his paintings and some other surprises. The second respondent is either confused and is thinking of Lloret about 10km to the south (although even Lloret has some charms when the cheap package tourists have gone home), or she just doesn't know what she's talking about. The nicest part of own to stay is Vila Vella where you'll find most of the little pensions and hotels. At the other end of the bay is the newer part of town where the hotels are progressively grander but it hasn't been overdone and there is no high oppressive development. I used to live in Barcelona and Tossa was ideal for an easy and relaxing weekend away.
