I live in Madrid.
So mid July is hell! :)) it is the hottest month of the summer, around 38-40 ºC or even above from 2.00 pm to around 5-6 p.m. and around 30ºC during the night. Air conditioning needed to breath :)) (i'm exagerating here, but seriously, air conditioning needed at the hotel).
I think the taxi can go from 40 to 50 euros aprox.
For kids you have plenty of things: I recommend you:
the Warner Park www.warnerbrospark.com
Faunia (great modern zoo) www.faunia-es.com
and the cable car http://www.teleferico.com.
This one's great to see the city and children enjoy!
Have a great time in Madrid! You can always buy a Spanish "hand-held" fan as souvenir if you come in July!
Besos! |

Yes -- It will be very hot in July. (In August the whole city is so hot, the city shuts down and people leave).
I just took a taxi from city center and it runs between 30 - 40 euros depending on traffic. For small kids you supposedly need car seats to drive on the freeway, but the taxistas don't seem to worry about it. You can reserve a shuttle with AeroCity with seats. We found them to not be very reliable though, so be sure to call them to confirm all reservations. They were also more expensive than a cab.
Our kids (6 years old) loved the Palace. And don't completely discount the museums. We made a list of things we might find in the paintings of the Prado and had a scavenger hunt. At the Reina Sophia, the kids actually enjoyed learning about the artists and seeing how Picasso's and Dali's styles changed over the years. We strategically hit playgrounds near each museum. They are everywhere. Also there is a nice day trip in the Strawberry Train that goes to a palace in Aranjuez. And Retiro park is the ultimate. My girls loved rowing the boats there. We also had a great time just exploring the backstreets around Plaza Mayor. Lots of twisty little streets. Let the kids lead the way.
Oh, and going anywhere in the Metro was a treat. Kids love trains and escalators and mazes.
We also stayed in a castle outside of Madrid. Incredible.
And eat lots of flan and helados (ice cream). |

Very, very hot. Around 40 euros for your taxi. I can't think of much for children as I wasn't there with any kids. |

Be prepared for very hot, dry weather!!! And if taking a taxi you might get charged more if you look like a tourist. You can also take the metro to the city center. But if you decide to get a taxi you might get charged around 15€ from the airport to downtown, which seems about right. Good luck!!! |

ok...July.....HOT! Madrid turns into hell during the summer....how do I know this??? I lived there!
Anyways....you are a turist so you have to be very very careful with taxi drivers. They tend to rip you off.....make sure they use the taximeter....otherwise they will charge you whatever they feel like that day.....40-60 euros.
Have fun! |

In July, expect it to be HOT!
If you need to take a taxi, expect it to cost you $50. I'd recommend taking the subway though, it'll only cost you a few dollars per person and it's clean, quick and easy.
If you have kids, take them to Retiro Park. |

Spain's capital is an exclusive member of European football's elite. Its status is guaranteed as it is the home of Real Madrid CF, winners of the European Champion Clubs' Cup on many occasions, who play at the five-star Santiago Bernabeu stadium, host of many international finals.

Quite hot time of the year till August. Been there 3 times, but not in July. Is a busy city with cars. If you are with your kids, they have very nice parks and museums. The Park called Retiro is really good for kids to run around and of course the Royal Palace. Beaches in Spain are also an option. But you must book real early. |
