Hi, yes I have lived with my family, wife and kids in Vera. It is a nice place and the beaches are generally well kept and beautiful. There are normal beaches, or better said one huge 7 or 8 km main beach, which has and nudist part at the end of the beach. The nudist area is indicated in case you want to go or avoid it.

The best car hire without a doubt is Europcar; other are Ok but some in Vera e.g not to be trusted with car rentals, . Auriga and Mocar are also Ok both in Mojacar and Airports and they have good prices and speak english too, as Europcar, you can reserve online, check prices and special offers in Spain and everything a doubleclicking:

http://www.europcar.com

Both companies have their own agencies at almeria, murcia, san javier and alicante airports, besides Mojacar and Vera.

The most interesting for the kids is an acuatic park its large, clean and great for the kids they have a ball. Doubleclick:

Also the nearest village to the beaches and urbanizations of Vera is Garrucha. At the exit of the road from Vera-Garrucha-Los gallardos there is a cart circuit with carts for children, smaller children and adults, also fun and nice.

Mojacar one of the nearest villages too, has castle and the sites from the village on top of the mountain and Castle are incredible.

There are several horse ridigng places with ponies. The closes to Vera is on the road from Vera to Garruch, past the gas station, about a hundred meters to the right, you have to live road into country road, ther is a horse and indication painted at ruins near the road. They also have spanish coaches with horses for rides in the countriside.

Dont miss the mozarab village on top of the mountains above mojacar and los gallardos. Its incredible, beutifull, no-one around and the resttaured village has beautifull houses and building all that road on top of the mountains is incredible.

Also at about 30 km there are the Cuevas del Karst, this caves are huge and they have excursions for different levels of difficulty that can last from an hour to 6 hours since the cave is many miles long and has many chambers.

Dont miss Cabo the Gata beaches this is a natural reserve with flamingoes, eagles, bultures and all kind of wild life. Beautifull beaches there too.

There are mercadillos or flea markets , on Garrucha they are on Friday and on vera on saturday, all in the morning till lunch time 1:30 – 3:00 pm,everyday in a different village, of the 5-6 around and including vera. They are great very cheap, good things and you will have a shopping spree. Kids like it since toys and kid things are dirt chip.

There are all kind of eating places yet try to avoid tourist traps. Not far away , 60 km is the Wild west villages and sets where Clint Eastwood and many Spaghetti Westerns where shot. There they have also small zoo. They have wild wst shows every day.

There are also great scoobadive places with equipment rental, instructors and the works for adults and children. In mojacar and Villaricos nearby.

Its really worth it to visit the Alcazaba of Almería. This is the ancient arab castle which is huge, well mantained and has also african animals nearby. The sights and place is great.

Village around Vera
Antas
Bédar on the road, in the village ther is a small restautrante with home food that has the most incredible views and you seat outside on the shade eat great and look.

Cabo de Gata - Níjar National Park
Carboneras
Cuevas del Almanzora Troglodite Caves
Garrucha

Los Gallardos

Mojácar Castle and village

Turre From Turre take the road to the Sierra Cabrera mountain above I referred before.

When we talk about Almeria Spain, we must not only think of the city, but the whole province that is made up of small but very important towns

Vera is a gentle but colourful blend of beach and urban life. The coastline is well maintained and serviced, while the town itself boasts a rich heritage including several 16th I century buildings still in use, a Gothic church with the appearance of a fortress, and a bull-ring.

Vera has a reputation steeped in Spanish culture and tradition. It offers culinary delights to satisfy the most demanding of palates, and among the town's many other claims to fame are the fine quality ceramics, crafts and the prestigious new golf course of Valle del Este.
