We drove from the East Midlands to the south coast of Spain last year (via euro tunnel).
To give you an idea our journey took about 30 hours, so I would say from London to Valencia would be about 23 hours.
I've added a link to the AA website which gave us loads of usefull info. According to their route planner from London to Valencia is about 1030 miles.
The roads in France and Spain are much better than the UK, we really enjoyed the journey and would love to do it again.
The route planners are great but take a road map aswell, we followed the route on the planner but actually used the map. We found alot of the town names shown on the route planner weren't actually the towns shown on the road signs.
Also, we paid about £60 in total for the toll.
Hope this helps. |

The distance between the 2 cities is 832 miles; you could possibly drive it, but you would have to take a ferry across the English Channel to get to the mainland of Europe. |

I drove from Leeds down to Granada a few years back. Exciting but long journey. I would recommend you ferry across from UK to North Spain, Santander, and take it from there. It takes about 24 hrs. but you'll save yourself a long and gruelling drive through France - not to mention the cost of tolls on French motorways.
You could then cut across Spain to Valencia which would give you the chance to see a lot of inland Spain - less known by tourists. Or cut straight across to the Mediterranean coast and drive down the Autopista del Mediterraneo, staying paralel to the sea all the way down.
Once in Spain, you could probably do it in a day if in a hurry and you have someone else to share the driving, or just take it easy stopping off along the way. No lack of interesting places to visit!
I have lived many years in a small town 60km south of Valencia and I can assure you it is a remarkable place. The people, culture, gastronomy and of course the fiestas are unique and however long you stay, you'll wish it was longer. They are a very friendly people and there are lots of things to see and do.
Rather than drive all the way - in a UK car, which makes driving slightly uncomfortable on the 'other' side of the road - it would be more relaxing and cheaper to fly down to Valencia and rent a car there for the touring bit.
Don't leave it too long.
Have a good trip! |

From Portsmouth to alicante its 18 hours approx, use the national roads in France as the tolls are high, Spanish tolls are cheaper |

My parents live in Spain and have done this a few times. They live near to Gerona in the NE of Spain and the journey takes approx 12 hours driving. They usually break it up with an overnight stay in France. |
