Gabi said everything you need to know.
It´s a very nice area to visit,I agree with her.
Next time you come to Spain, instead of going west, come to see the east,Catalonia.Very nice as well (I have to do some propaganda here...hehehe).This way you can see that Spain has a lot of different cultures and views!!!! Start learning some Gallego (Galicia´s language!!!!).Nice sound too!!!!
Good luck and enjoy yourself there!!!! |

Yes Galicia is fantastic, lush, green, beautiful landscapes. One thing, it is also the rainiest part of Spain, so take a weaterproof poncho, or a windbreaker with you. I was there in july, and we had great weather, but it did rain some.
All the cities are lovely... A Coruña, Vigo, Pontevedra, Ourense, and especially Santiago de Compostela (a gorgeous medieval city, well worth a visit.).,.. As are many of the smaller towns. |

Depending on which time of the year you go to Galicia, and also which area, you could check for different kind of accommodation, specially because of the kids.
If you are several days in the same area, you might want to opt for a self-catered apartment or rural house with e.g. breakfast.
You could check for example the following website:
http://www.spaindreams.com/eng/galicia.htm
A campsite can be cheaper but the problem is the changing weather. So it might be better to opt for something "safer".
Good luck. It´s surely worth a visit, being coast or inland. |

Hi! Yes, I'm actually Galician. As someone pointed out, this area is famous for being rainy. But it actually hasn't been the last years, reaching over 40º in summer. Just in case take something for the rain, it's good being prepared.
I would say a good spot for staying would be Sanxenxo. It's a lovely coast village with nice beaches and pretty near Vigo, Pontevedra and Santiago de Compostela. This village it's situated in RÃas Baixas, which I personally find prettier than the RÃas Altas. Although, maybe I'm biased as a Galician southerner.
Another lovely village I like even more than Sanxenxo is Baiona. This one is much more in the South, nearer Portugal and beside Vigo. Galicia is quite small, so it wouldn't take long to other interesting sightseeings.
Have a look at the web pages:
www.sanxenxo.com
www.sanxenxotur.com
http://www.agalicia.com/baiona/index.htm
http://www.baiona.org/
Have fun! It's so different from other Spanish areas such as AndalucÃa and the East. It's more similar to Ireland with good weather than to the idea foreigners have of typical Spain. Enjoy! |
