Of course. But first of all, be carefl with the thiefs. A lot of people from Maroc, Romania, Russia is stolen tourist.
You have to walk in the streets around the Puerta del Sol, the major square...the old Madrid. Yoy can drink wine or beer or sidra and taste the tapas. If you like beer, you have to go to Santa Ana Square. The best brewery of Madrid. Near Oriente Square you have a lot of restaurants. ANother place, near Manuel Becerra Circus is the bullring "las ventas". In these area is a lot of "baretos" (small and tipical brewery).
If you like to see the most luxury shops in Madrid, to main streets. Velazquez street and Serrano street. Near the national Library. Near the Prado Museum you have AtochaÂ´s area. With a lot of baretos. In these area you have the botanic garden. And during the night, the discos in Castellana avenue.

Some of my husbands family live in Madrid, I've been there often...
There are so many things worth seeing you could stay for months and not visit everything...
If you like museums...You have
MUSEO DEL PRADO
MUSEO THYSSEN
MUSEO REINA SOFÃA (modern art)
All within walking distance of each other...

There is a smaller museum dedicated to the painter Sorolla
A Military museum and a Natural Sciences Museum, and another contemporary art museum.
Near the Prado (just next to it) you have the Botanical Gardens
And El Parque del Retiro, with its lake is just behind El Prado...
Then you have the Palacio Real and the Almudena Cathedral (where the crown prince was married 2 years ago)
The Plaza Mayor (if you go on a sunday morning there is a street market with philatelists and others collectors items), there are small restaurants all around the plaza and on the lower level on the streets surrounding, great places for typical spanish food...
On the Gran Via you have the chic shops, and at Callao there is a big department store called "El Corte InglÃ©s", great for shopping. This is within walking distance to the City Hall building in La Puerta del Sol. And the little side streets in this area are interesting with lots of nice shops too.
If your spanish is good there are plenty of theaters with excellent shows.
Then there is the zoo, and you have a Warner Bros. Theme park just on the outskirts of the city.
(Watch your purse and mobile phone, there are a lot of eastern european immigrants that have decided that Madrid is a great place to earn a living by purse-snatching. It's not really dangerous, but be careful anyway...)

Then you have nearby towns worth seeing...There is a beautiful palace in Aranjuez, the Palace of San Lorenzo del Escorial, the whole of Toledo is magnificent, Segovia has the roman aqueduct. And many more.

Enjoy your visit...Madrid is one of the loveliest cities in Europe!

P.S. Have "Churros & Chocolate" for breakfast one day...That is a really typical thing in Madrid, and the seafood places in the center of town are great.

I suggest you visit the Palacio Real in Madrid and the Thiessen Bornemiza Museum. You could also go on a romantic walk on Madrid's famous park Retiro or to Plaza Mayor. You should stay away from the terrases of Plaza Mayor because they are real tourist traps. You could try before entering the Plaza Mayor square some of the bars serving very tasteful squid sandwiches if you like the sea food, with the most fresh squid in all Madrid.

Go to Huertas, best street to have fun in Madrid

Casa Pepe, Metro Barrio del Pilar, best Tapas ever!!!! and Cheap!!!!

Truco, Escape, La Bohemia, best clubs within the lesbian/gay district called Chueca.

Visit all the bars in "MalasaÃ±a" the fun neighborhood

Go to Museo del Jamon, Beer at 60 euro cents!!! and good tapas

very toursity thing to do but the bus tours are a great wayto see this City. I found Madrid to be very spaced out, there didn't seem to be one main area. So easiest and quickest way to see the City at once is by bus tour and then you can visit your preferred areas by foot.

The park is great to chill out is weather is nice, huge lake!

Calle de Serello (not sure on correct spelling) is best area for designer shops...watch out for Mrs V Beckham!!!!
