Hello there and well done you for choosing one of the lovliest parts of Ibiza. Portinatx is well worth a visut and I've been three times. First time to the Thomson Superfamily hotel Presidente second time was to The El Greco and the third, we just went back for the day to reminice :-)

Portinatx is a complete little resort, ideal for families and quieter holidays. It has three good, sandy beaches to choose from The largest beach S'Arenal Gros is in the Bay across from the main Coach Park.
Little S'Arenal Petit, which is more private, is around the corner from the rocky bit to the left. The third is Playa Porto Beach, surrounded by little pineclad hills, it is in a little cove at the end of the main road. All these beaches have shallow water and are excellent for bathing.

There are music bars, pubs, quiz evenings, plenty of shops and a surprisingly active night scene.

Because Portinatx is so popular with families, much of the accommodation is in self-catering apartments
and several shops and bars. Whilst it's not huge, it had everything we needed for a lovely relaxing family holiday.

Ibiza is a small island with a good road system, which makes getting around all of the quaint hideaways and raging party zones easy. Ibiza has several bus lines which serve every corner of Ibiza Town as well as many other parts of the island. Renting a car, motorbike or bicycle is another great way to see the sights of the island. Mopeds are especially popular in the southern part of the island. They are cheap to rent and can access many places that are hard to get to by car. The winding roads of Ibiza are fun to drive and offer some wonderful scenery.

Checkout the fun tourist mini train (suitable for families) here:

I hope this helps you- I'm sure you're going to love Portinatx and the island of Ibiza- All the best for a great holiday!

It's a few years since I've been there, so my knowledge is a bit out of date. It is indeed nice and quiet though the beach is probably way crowded by now, as there was a fair bit of new building going on for such a small bay. It's great for snorkelling and a nice safe cove foe swimming if you've got kids. It is pretty 'out of the way' though. Not many busses and quite far from everywhere else. You can get a bus to Santa Eulalia, which is well worth the trip, and I'd be surprized if there aren't now also busses to Es Cana(Nice little town, good Hippy Market), and other places, but you can get to Santa Eulalia, and anywhere else from there. Don't expect to get anywhere in ten minutes though- it is pretty isolated.
To be honest though, the first time I stayed there, I didn't feel the need to go anywhere else.
If you're at one of the two main hotels, the Presidente or the El Greco, they have good entertainments for kids and adults alike.

It's a really nice place. I believe some scenes from the film 'South Pacific' were shot there. I don't know about public transport.. we hired a car.
