I'm Polish and I married a Spaniard before Poland joined the EU so my experience won't be 100% your case. In our case it took 4 months of paperwork (!!!!) both in Poland and here. We got married in a council though so can't tell you how it works with the church but I think they ask for recommendation (from your parish) and christening certificate, translated into Spanish. I guess this depends on the priest, so you'll have to check with him anyway.
Allow PLENTY of time for red tape and take into account the cost of translating all the documents.
Good luck!

I am english, married to a Spaniard.................I had no trouble at all with paperwork, just needed, copies of everything relating to ME!
Passport/birth certificate/residencia (residents permit), we did get married in the Town Hall, the equiv. of the registry office in the UK, the whole thing only took minutes,

I think the best thing you can do is get in touch with the Spanish embassy in the UK and just ask about paperwork first, which to be honest with you NOT being residents here will be horrendous! I should imagine.
Many Brits down on the costa del sol where I live are already residents here when they get together and later marry, or they marry in Gibraltar.
I don't think for one minute you will get any replies from emails sent to Spain, its best to start in the Uk with enquiries then run with it from there.

The following is a section taken from our church web site but it applies to all marriages in Spain Catholic or Anglican.

The answer is one of you has to have Spanish residency.

BRITISH NATIONALS - GETTING MARRIED IN SPAIN

We as an Anglican Church receive many enquiries from British People about getting married in Spain. Perhaps the following explanation may be of assistance:
Weddings in Spain all require a civil ceremony first, at which the couple become husband and wife according to Spanish law. A civil marriage in Spain requires at least one of the couple to have Spanish residency. Where this is not the case, such a civil marriage will need to be conducted in the home country of the couple or in Gibraltar.
The church can offer a service of blessing of the civil marriage, which is very much like a marriage ceremony in an English church but without the vows being exchanged as that has already happened. The church can offer a very happy ceremony with all the trappings commonly associated with a marriage back in England. Such ceremonies can take place by arrangement with the parish priest, locally or at a church in another locality. Exceptionally the ceremony can take place in a secular place but this needs careful researching to ensure it is appropriate for a religious ceremony.

I have heard...Mind you, not personal experience...that it is very difficult to get through the red tape, which in all things in Spain, is a real challenge.

I am Spanish and got married to a British man in Barcelona. But we got married in the council, not in church. He needed to go to the Embassy for some papers before the marriage. It is best if you speak to your Embassy to legalize papers rather than the Spanish one.
