I'm European currently living in The U.S and thinking abt. relocating to Spain to be closer to family. Is health care like London or is it expensive like in the U.S?? I know that the pay is not very good, but where is a nice part to live (relative, I know) but curious to hear your answers? Thanks. |

I presently live in southern spain Marbella .Healthcare here is very good I have no complaints at all .once you get a job here and you register correctly obtain an nie number, social security number and you start having your contributions paid by your employer or like wise register autonomo self employed and pay your own.then you are treated like the natives, youare given a healthcard and you can see the doctors, consultants etc as and when at no cost-I have 4 children and i have no worries. when you need medication you take your prescription to the chemist and you pay a reduced rateif you need any more inormation let me know it will be a pleasure to help you. |

Really depends on what you're interests are...do you want to learn the language? looking for a location close to your family? I've lived in Logrono in La Rioja province for 2 years. I came to study and decided to stay because of great tapas, 50 cents for a glass of lovely red rioja crianza wine, and great people once you get to know them...After travelling around Spain over the past little while some other towns or parts of Spain I'd recommend are: Cudillero in austurias, Betanzos in galicia, the towns in and around santander i think are the most beautiful in spain...also, Caceres in the south or Huesca in the north east. You'll find nice places whereever you go really..
I'm partial more to the towns that are conservatively Spanish, with few english speakers and even fewer loud drunk tourists
good luck |

If you are under retirement age you will have to fund your own health care. As someone said, health care is free if you are Spanish, but for the immigrants including the British, you must make your own arrangements for health. Valencia used to be different, but they have now declared all other Europeans must be of retirement age to get free health care. Having said that, you can get a health card from the country you are a citizen of, and that will enable you to get free emergency health care anywhere in Europe.
Where you live is a personal thing. Your question is too general because you haven't said what your priorities would be. I live in rural Andalucia. I prefer a rural community to a city. I am retired, but getting a job right now in Spain will be almost impossible. |

Health care is free in Spain, even for illegalimmigrantss. It's paid through taxes. But it's not very good in some parts. The best free health sare in Spain is in Navarre, in Pamplona, in Basque Country, Asturias, Aragon... I would go to one of those to live. The basque country and Navarre are with Cataluña and Madrid, the richest parts of Spain. But they are in the north so the climate is colder and wet.
Hope this link helps you. |
