I am travelling to Amsterdam and from there, I want to go to Madrid and Barcelona. Any ideas where to find info about cheap travel in Europe. I am particularly interested in trains. Is it safe to travel by train from Madrid to
Barcelona, how long does it take. Would you recomend it? Any help would be appreciated.
i did it and it's a lot of fun. overnight travelling will save you time and money. you can take your shower in the larger train stations as well as leaving your luggage in lockers. if you go for ten days, do this at least three times. on average $100 a day should be plenty. you can ride from amsterdam to paris and down south to spain. it is safe. but make some stops in places like bordeaux in the south. france is pretty, too.
opps, sorry, if you're going from usa then go to http://www.eurail.com/ .

For traveling in Spain go to www.renfe.es. From Madrid to Barna it takes from 5 to 7 hours depending if you take the high speed train? What do you mean safe? Terrorism? Would you travel to New York? It has the same answer.

Eurorail is great if you plan on bouncing all over europe for an extended period of time you can get a 30 day Pass for about 600.00 dollars which gives you access to 18 countries. Or you can pick out 2 or 3 countries to travel between for cheaper. Europe places a large amount of emphasis on it's public transportation and if you will just be traveling point A to point B to point C and time is not a concern I suggest the buses. Figure 6-8 dollars an hour for a bus ride or 16-22 dollars an hour for the train ride. If you are going Amsterdam - Barcelona - Madrid then returning home try www.raileurope.com for all kinds of different travel ideas. Trains and buses are safe in Europe and very busy so if you plan on "winging" it allow a little extra time for waiting.
