I went to Cambrils, which is near Salou on the Costa Dorada this year. Our hotel was between the two towns, therefore it was not too noisy. Lots of shops, fountains etc. Waterpark and huge theme park nearby (Port Aventura) which both have plenty to do for kids and adults. Also it was a 2 hour journey to visit Barcelona. Salou itself is very, very busy and noisy, I wouldn't recommend staying there with a little one but it is ok for a visit. Our hotel was the Cambrils Princess but I think it has now been renamed The Cambrils Hotel. Click link below if you would like to see the hotel. Apparently if you book with Thomson you are guaranteed a room at the front facing the pool. The pool has a big area for kids too and a seperate baby pool.

Forgot to add - we are a family of 2 adults and an 8 year old.

If you want a Spanish resort that has retained the charm of an old Spanish town then why not look to having a holiday in Nerja on the Costa del Sol. It has exquisite beaches. Wonderful restaurants and bars, The scenery is magnificent. You are within easy driving distance of Granada and the Alhambra Palace and so much more in that area of Andalucia.
I love Nerja. I go fairly often as I have to do business there. I live about 40 minutes away in the mountains.
