Hotels in Madrid ???

Thinking of taking my hubby to Madrid to see Real play in October.

Any suggestions as to the best hotel to stay in for the footie and to see a bit of Madrid?

Hoping to walk a bit so something a bit central would be nice but not opposed to jumping on a bus or metro if needs be.

Thanks in advance

I've got a friend who can get tickets so they aren't a problem - I know they can be expensive but for lesser matches (eg not against Barcelona) it's not too bad.

biswox makes a good point. Have you already gotten the tickets for the game? Not only are they difficult, but they cost a pretty penny!

(like around $130US per seat...cheap seats!)

I stayed in the Hostal Cruz Sol, exactly ten seconds brisk walk from the Plaza Mayor. You just hoof it down to Sol, and take the metro to the stadium. Not far at all.

Clean and basic, but the location was primo!

Football tickets aren't that much of problem. Of course, some are very expensive, but if you don't mind sitting up in the gods and getting a taste of the atmosphere (which is tremendous), then you can get tickets for as little as 15 euros. There is also a bar which has a terrace overhanging the pitch, (5 euros per person including 1 consumption), and is open all day, but not during match time. The Real Madrid guided tour is also well worth it.
Hotels in Madrid can be pricey. I would recommend the NH Parque Avenidas. It's in a safe, residential area right next to Las Ventas bullring, which is absolutely beautiful. At the door of the hotel you can catch the 43 bus which takes you to the Real Madrid football ground. From the same bus stop you can catch the 53 bus which takes you in the other direction to Puerta del Sol, in the centre, where you'll find the Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Oriente (Royal Palace) and some great bars, restaurants and terraces for evenings out (although you need to be very careful with pickpockets). This 53 bus route goes along nearly all the places on the open bus tourist rides. A 10 ride bus/metro ticket costs 6.70 euros and can be bought in newspaper shops.
I know what it's like trying to find a decent hotel in an unknown city and the NH hotels are good, and not at all expensive if you compare them with English hotels.

I'd reccomend the vincci soho hotel in Madrid- it's in the funky literature district which has loads of cool bars etc. Also very close to plaza Santa ana for restaurants etc and puerta del sol which is one of the main sights in Madrid.

Very close to metro too so it's easy to get to real's ground.

Check out vincci hotels website, the have a few hotels in Madrid, I think this is the best location though.

Ask for a large room if possible- 107,207,307 are all big!

Is more difficult to get tickets for Real Madrid than finding hotels in the center of Madrid
