There are lot of catholic churches all over Spain.
In rural areas, every village has at least a church, usually it is in the middle of it, and town halls use to be built near.
In urban areas, it depends of the age of the city. Almost every city has a Cathedral. In older districts of the cities there is a high density of churches. You can find one every hundred meters in some places.
Architectonic styles go from romanesque to baroque, passing througt gothic and renaissance styles.
There is also christian activities and groups almost in every church. Kids and young people use to be active part of this groups. They use to sing songs or go to country or spiritual meetings with other christian groups. Rituals are mainly made on Sunday.
You can dress in church as you dress in the street (allways you dont show too much).
Although catholicism is predominat and tradition in Spain, you can find presence of any other belief but in much lower number. |

Hello Eco. First of all, Spain is a very cultured and variable country, from the lush green pastures of the northern region (near the border with France) to the Costas - the Mediterranean coasts which are beautiful but unfortunately over-run by tourists and ex-pats from Britain, Germany, Holland, etc. Inland you will find the most beautiful and historic parts of Spain, largely untouched, with buildings that are centuries old. It's still one of the cheaper European countries to live in. I love Spain to bits. Very friendly, welcoming people, loads of festivals and fiestas, some of which last for days on end, and very Catholic in some ways but very liberated in others. The young people party all night in cities like Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. You're very lucky if you get the chance to live there ... find the right place and you might never leave! |

Catholic churches are the norm. Masses on sundays and fiestas, every hour on the hour during the morning.
Other churches are harder to come across because, not all that long ago, non Roman catholic groups and churches were frowned upon by the government..
You will still find 'the others' in the telephone book as 'other cults'.
There are anglican and congregations of most major groups in larger cities. Use the telephone book to find them.
In holiday resorts, there are protestant services held in a few hotels. Ask the tour guides and your embassy.
Dress is informal and especially so in summer. Women usually go bareheaded but covered arms are the norm in the higher and more traditional places..
All your other questions depend on the local congregation and facilities just as at home. |
