Alcudia is a very family oriented resort - beautiful beaches with shallow waters make it very child friendly. However at this time of year with most children of 5 upwards starting back to school you will find it much, much quieter than usual. No dount there will be families theres but the majority of them will have under 5's with them.

My husband and I visit Mallorca 5 or 6 times a year (in fact we are moving there next year for 18 months!) and we find April/May and September/Early October to best the most relaxed times to visit with the weather being lovely and temperate.

Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa can be reached by bus from Alcudia and are both beautiful, laid back, more traditional areas.

Hiring a car in Mallorca is WELL worth it. Car hire is fairly cheap, the roads are safe and easy to navigate.

Palma is a must see - a beautiful catherdral with hundreds of tiny windy streets to explore and the harbour has some of the best tapas bars I have ever visit in the Balearics or anywhere else in Spain.

On the west coast Valldemossa, Soller and the Torrent de Parais (the drive down to which truly needs to be experienced to be believed!!!) are well worth a visit. In fact get the tram of Palma to Soller - it's a lovely journey.

There are markets all over the island, different parts on different days - well worth a trip to one, just for the atmosphere if nothing else.

Mallorca has it's fair share of the usual water parks and so on so if thats your things there's plenty to do.

Then there are the big shows like 'Pirates' and 'Solymar' are very well put together shows if you enjoy the whole 'variety show' thing - both are entertaining if you fancy a livelier night out and ticket prices include dinner and complmentary drinks.

Las Cuevas el Drac are stunning - and you also get to enjoy a short concert of Offenbach and Chopin pieces performed by a string quartet on boats on the Lake of Martel, the underground lake in the caves - makes me cry it's so lovely.

BE WARNED - you will find it much cheaper to book ALL EXCURSIONS independently. This is ESPECIALLY worth doing if you opt to hire a car for a few days! For example - a tour operator trip to the caves will cost you around 30/40 euros (depending where you travel from on the island) - whereas the actual entrance fee is a mere 8.50e ....

Mallorca is a beautiful, beautiful island. Don't miss out. Make the effort to get out and about as much as you can and have a wonderful trip!

Alcudia is really really nice, got such a fantastic beach. Will be quite busy this time of year but without all the screaming kids as they have gone back to school. Whatch out for the melon, cocnut & pineapple people on the beach, you have to try their fruit it is lush.

You are staying in Alcudia wow I used to live there. If you have kids there is Hydro Park also fun for the grown ups this is left from the Burger King on Magic rounderbout you can not miss it and in Playa De Muro/ Las Gaviatas there is a Giant Maze that is fun.
It is also worth taking the green number 2 bus to visit Ca'n Picafort this is a small resort with a big cheap cosmetic/duty free store called Blau Blue Cheaper than Alcudia this is on the beach front also i recommend you eat at the local restaurant Mariscos at the far end of the beach head for the hotel with a large Flamingo picture on the wall. Ca'n picafort is like most resort the usual cafes and shops. I preferred living here as there is less hustle and bustle. Right at the far side of Ca'n picafort there is Shenanigans and Irish bar. The owner is great and the food is good too. If you go tell Graham the owner skater girl says hi.

It is also worth getting the same bus but the opposite direction to Ca'n Picafort to Puerto Pollence this is a larger mainly British resort lovely beach bit more up market to Alcudia
.
If It has not changed since last summer ( I spent 6 years there) Ca'n Picafort has a market on Friday good day to visit. And the old town of Alcudia have a Huge market thought the back streets and ruins of the castle I think that is Tuesdays and Sundays there is also a large newly built playground too if you have kids.

Soller is a stunning place to visit bit it is down bendy roads and a long trip so you would be better taking the train from Palma there its well worth a visit to see the lovely old tram that still runs.
If you do hire a car visit Caves Of Arta as my favorites as there not over run by tourist like the caves or Drach or Caves of Ham. It's an east trip as it is more or less straight following the route to Arta and Cala Rajada there is a big castle in Arta too.
Palma is also a must see place but you will need a map as it is huge and everything is well spread out. if you do go by bus the station is in Platza de Espana by the KFC and Burger King. if you are far out and in a tizzy take a taxi or the number 1 bus. By bus from Alcudia it takes about and hour or so a return ticket is about 8 euros.

On a Thursday I think Inca has the largest market on the island but beware buses are more frequent going into Inca rather than out and I have had trouble getting home and I speak Spanish. The Majorquian dialect is well used in Inca and as it is closing into the last 2 month of the season it can be difficult to get home.

If you fancy heading out of Palma and towards Palma Nova Magalluf drop by Puerto Pi Shopping center all you need under one roof and sales may still be on in September

There is still a buzz of tourist in September but it is not so hectic and the weather is still nice or so I hear from my Spanish friends. Last summer was a scorcher but this one not so. September is usually similar to May early June so there may be showers and evenings get chili so pack a cardie. On the evening you can always take a nice walk up to the port of alcudia its nice at night grab a beer and and ice cream and there is a large area where children can run about and play while you sit in on open are cafe.

Local buses run until 11pm however the last bus back to Alcudia from Puerto Pollenca is around 8pm.

Hope that helped. Take care have fun and if you come across a bus driver on the number 2 with the name Ruiz on his cash bag say hi from Sarah. he is called Peter (Pedro) and is the best.

Nice beaches in Alcudia, little night life. I'm going next Friday to chill!

Came back Monday, 4th Sept, from Puerto Pollensa, which is 5 minute drive from Alcudia. It should still be busy but there just won't be as many children. The resort shuts at the end of October and is busy up until the October half term, after that it is very quiet. Have been to Majorca a lot over the last few years so you should be OK in September. It should still be in the high 20's early 30's for sun also.
