I am going to add to Nosce's... answer that if you want to ask for permission of residence here, you need to have at least $75,000.00 in the bank. You can stay as an English Teacher and travel outside the EU to be on the safe side. Good Luck!

To work in Spain you will need an official PERMISO, something that you get after going through official application procedures.

That said, it is still possible to work under the table, so to speak (no pun intended). But it will have to be in fields like personal language instruction, house cleaning, babysitting, labor, etc. Employers know the rules and are fully aware that they risk heavy fines if they hire an "illegal".

If you can show proof of health insurance, financial independence (obviously that might be difficult if you are desperate for work, I'm sorry) and a clean police record, the more certain route is the official one.

Good Luck.

PS When you work without a permit, you risk being taken advantage of and having no recourse.
