How can I get to Spain really cheap? |
I would like to travel to Spain next summer, but I don't really have money, so I'm looking for the cheapest opportunity. I heard about the InterRail, but it 's not good for me, so I'd like to ask, if there is any kind of rail pass, which I can use to travel around Spain unlimitedly for like a month. I'm interested in Spanish tickets/passes or something like that, I'm not just interested in the big cities, I'd like to see the countryside, as well. |

Well, I'm from the US and currently living in Madrid. You can get around by metro or by buses. Cheap? Consider that you'll be paying $ 1.30 per Euro.... You can buy the monthly pass, about EU45,00 that's only for Madrid center , section A, it's more if you want to travel further more. I think they also have the tourist pass, which is for one week and have unlimited rides here in Madrid Centro....
In general, If you're coming from the US, think that you'll be paying for a can soda EU 1,00 One way metro or bus ticket EU 1,00. You can sleep in a decent hotel room for EU 40.00 Milk? EU 1.00 per liter, Gas? EU 0.97 per liter... McDonnalds? One cheeseburger EU 1.80 One small soda? EU 1.40 Get it...? And remember if you use your debit/credit card, you'll find a nice juice tax for each transaction you make in your statement....
Hope this help and gives you an idea...... |

If you want to travel and see the countryside the bus is the best way.
Try looking on the Alsa site www.alsa.es and you can see all the towns they go to and prices.
A lot of smaller places in Spain don't have railway stations so the bus is best. |

I agree with the other answer, but my first question to you is HOW WELL DO YOU SPEAK SPANISH? If you can only use the same 20 words that most AmeriKans know of Spanish and then use them to make their friends think they are fluent in the language... it will take a whole lot more if you plan to travel rough.
A one month EuRail pass would get you around Spain and, if you plan to do a LOT of traveling it would be a better buy than purchasing individual tickets or even riding the bus.. but then.. if you REALLY want to see the countryside.. the BUS is the only way to go. |

Easyjet!
or BMI baby,
Check out websites for these airlines, they often do feebies if you are lucky enough to get in a grab one, I have twice!!
Don't hitch, you might not get where you are going!
Trains can be more expensive than a cheap flight, and takes much longer......
flying is still best! |

Over 30 years ago I traveled all over western Europe by hitch hiking. Had one advantage:- as a Scot was wearing my kilt, no problem for lifts!! |

Cheap??? Honey, ain't much that's cheap these days!
I would NOT recommend the hitch hiking route...I did it thirty years ago, and I was pretty nervous, and went with a friend. We only hitched infrequently, and I wasn't all that comfortable with it, and it is more dangerous today! People in Spain have grown more into the modern world than they were at the time, with all the bad that goes with it as well. I suggest the trains, because they are quick and clean and comfortable, but they are not cheap!
Busses will get you around cheaply, but not as quickly, nor, I feel, as comfortably, but some people are neutral on that.
Inter Rail WON'T work for you? too expensive? or just not where you want to go? If you go back to considering that...remember, you still have to pay any supplements, reservations, and seats in addition to the pass. Same thing with EurRail.
Economizing should include not eating at restaurants, but buying groceries and eating a lot of picnics, though breakfast in Spain is only a couple of dollars.
If you are a student, you can get an international Student ID card, which will get you into most monuments and museums free or very cheaply. I don't remember paying for much of any of those...maybe the Louvre, in Paris, but I didn't pay for anything in the rest of Europe.
Nothing is cheap with the dollar so low! Good luck! |

flightnetwork.com
not sure where youre leaving from
but mine is vancouver - barcelona
and its only $650!! with british airways (a good company)
its better to get them from this site because they buy these tickets all in bulk and then sell them way cheaper than if you were to get them from the company British Airways themselves.
I'm sure you can find a cheap flight in summer as well (keep in mind that June is the best time to travel...after that prices really go up)
but TRUST ME...this site is the best...ive looked at hundred others & even talked to travel agents
as for the buses & stuff...im not sure because I havent gone there yet...but ill let you know in april :) |
