Hello, again. Take the R5 line of the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya - roughly Railways of the Autonomous Community of Catalunya). from Placa de Espanya. You have a couple options from there:
1) Get off at Montserrat Aeri and take the cable car up
2) Get off at the next stop, Monistrol de Montserrat, and take a train
3) At Monistrol de Montserrat, there are several hiking trails up (see link below, click on English if you want).
It's the best natural beauty in the area, though it could be slightly chilly, so dress accordingly. If you're up for hiking and want to spend the day, go up to the peak, and then down to the Coves de Salnitre, and take a bus back from Collbato. Contact the tourism office in Collbato to get the hours of the caves and buses if you need this.
I don't know that it would be my top destination in Barcelona for only 1 1/2 days (I would hit the Gaudi buildings, Parc Guell, Museu Picasso, Fundacio Miro, and Palau de Musica), but that's my bias. It is beautiful. |

There's a train and then a funicular...it's all part of the metro system...the funicular, if I remember correctly, left from the Paral lel station.
Just pull up the Barcelona metro map, and you'll get that all in your mind.
VERY pretty ride! nice little area up there. |
