I go to Marbella often. I don't spend a great deal. I go out with friends and we have a meal and a few drinks, but I'm not on holiday, I live here. I don't do clubs or expensive places, I eat the menu of the day (menu del dia) and drink the house wine (vino de la casa).

Go to the traditional spanish bars, fill up on tapas and wine. The orange square/Plaza De Los Naranjos. Have fun.

Spain is expensive, but if you are going with other friends they may have set different budgets for doing things. It may cause some tension if you guys are looking to do things together but you or they may have less or more money to spend.

Drinking is expensive, restaurants are expensive, accommodation is expensive.

Try to book a hostel, drink less, find a grocery store to shop for food that will last you a few days, and do free things (beaches for walking, swimming, play volleyball). Walk the town and give yourself a tour, pitch in with your friends when possible to reduce costs. Take the bus.

Plenty great free things to do ion the area - beaches, great country and villages to visit (Mijas, Ronda, etc).

For ideas on things to do in the area - http://www.yougodo.com/en/things-to-do/Search.aspx?l=2514169

And heres a map - http://www.yougodo.com/en/Spain/Andalucia/Marbella/information/L2514169.aspx

Eat and drink where the Spanish eat and drink - in the tapas bars a few streets back from the sea front. Lizarran and Pinxto's for example are popular Spanish tapas bars.

Puerto Banus with all its glam and glitz is very expensive. Great for a walk around but a good night out is not cheap. Picasso's Italian is the best value resturant in the port if you wanted to eat out in Banus.

Try nights out in more Spanish areas - San Pedro and Fuengirola.

It's a great place.

Have fun.

have fun. dont mind the expenses.

Ash
keep it REAL spanish and it will be cheaper. (don't be tempted to eat Doner Kebab crap no matter how cheap).

i live about 10 minutes from marbella and do go out often there....

you dont have to be rich. puerto banus is the port where you often here about celebs going to. even ther is not that expensive. some bars are very expensive but girls get in free most places. but careful- a bottle of water costs 10 euros in most clubs!!! lol

if you want to keep very cheap, stay in marbella town, its all very spanish and wont cost you the world. keep spanish and not touristy. go to the spanish bars and restaurants and you will be fine...

have fun!

I agree with P completely. Marbella is no more expensive than other resorts in Spain. Puerto Banus is where it is expensive - it's about 15 mins in a taxi from Marbella.

I stayed in Marbella, ate a local restaurants, drank local beer/wine and it's not expensive at all. You can go to Puerto Banus a couple of times to check it out. If you are staying in Puerto Banus you won't be able to escape spending a lot of money.
