It isn't dangerous, in that you'll run into physical danger, the crimes there are almost all variations on pickpocketing, so, if you're careful with your wallet, you should be okay.
We had a little difficulty: my husband, tired after a long day of running around, wasn't paying close attention, and somebody got his wallet. We went to report it, just in case it turned up, and there were something like 6 or 7 other parties in the waiting area. During the hour and a half we were waiting for my husband to straighten things out with the credit cards, we spoke to or eavesdropped on all of them. It was all the same, tricksters somehow getting their wallets, money, cards, purses, air tickets, and passports, but no violent crimes.
Don't keep all your stuff in one place. If you don't need it, don't carry it on your person, keep purses and cameras tucked close to your body, and make it clear you are watching people around you. If you look easy, they'll take your stuff, but they aren't very likely to hurt you for it. No guns/knives/ muggings. |
