i think the bus is easier and cheaper, you can find them at the airport bus station, and there ask how to get to la estacion del norte, if there's not one direct, you can go to plaza the catalnuya and get one there to the estacion del norte.

There´s a train station in the airport, so you won´t have any problem to arrive, but if you wanna feel more comfortable taxis are in the main entrance/exit and they´re not expensive.

look at renfe site for information on the train times from the airport to the central station.
also theres a bus every 15 minutes to central Barcelona that calls at all main railway stations
