Well, the current elected goverment have legalized homosexual marriage and adoption, a human right only recognized in a few countries. Gay celebrities like Pedro Almodovar are admired and recognized. One of the most important judges in Spain (Grande-Marlaska) has been recognized by himself as homosexual. The public opinion sees homosexuality as an perfectly valid option. However, there are problems in religious spheres and in the rural spanish world. |

SOC JO! A capite ad calcem

We are very open minded here about this subject.I live in Barcelona, and I can assure you it´s something natural to see gays holding hands.People respect them normally (you can always find the typical idiot of course).
Homosexuals can get married in Spain,it is completely legal, even adoption. :) |

I saw a lot of openness in Barcelona, but I thought that was more because it's so cosmopolitan there...I lived in Sevilla a LONG time ago, and it was pretty much a closed subject...no one admitted, and there was a definite stigma...still an extremely conservative, Catholic country at the time.
I have noticed a very open scene in Madrid...but I'm surprised to see how much Spain has advanced over some other countries, like the US, on subjects like this, and pollution in the last thirty five years....really liberal nowadays! Nicer in a lot of ways than it was when I lived there. |
