I'm not sure but i live in March in Cambs and go to Vera quite regularly - sorry not an answer for you but interesting.

We fly to Almeria and drive from there, its only about an hour from there.

You could drive to Plymouth and get the ferry to Santander. From there you could drive in a day. I did it that way but went to Málaga which is further.
If you wanted to drive via Calais it would be about 2300 kilometres. From Santander it is about 950 kilometres. The ferry may be more expensive, but to drive you´ll still have to get across the channel, then the toll roads, plus the fuel costs and maybe a hotel as well. That´s why I took that ferry.
