How long does it take to get a spanish passport if you are living on spain but am from Chile? |

Well actually for your information, the question was not for me but for a friend. He is Chilean but living LEGALLY in Spain and has been for the last 6 years, with, I might add, a long term contract for work. He has applied for his passport about a year ago and is waiting for it to be processed and has been told it is on its way through the system, thus my question relating to how long he will have to wait. So no he will not be deported and if you don't know the answer to a question may I ask you not to respond to it with a horrible attitude. I only asked a simply question not for you to have a go with an attitude problem.

Regardless of the rest of this guy's situation, doesn't one have to be a CITIZEN of a country, in order to get a passport? Doesn't he have to do that first? That's how it is done in the US. Being a legal citizen here, does NOT make one a citizen, nor does it make them candidates for a passport.
And, doesn't he have a Chilean passport? |

You can only get a Spanish passport by becoming a Spanish citizen, whether that be by birth or by naturalisation. If he has become a Spanish citizen I don't know how long it will take as paperwork and red tape is very slow here and varies from region to region. If he hasn't become a Spanish citizen there is NO WAY he can legally get a Spanish passport, only a Chilean one. |

I am from another EU country and I live in Spain. I have residencia but I can't get a passport unless I get Spanish citizenship and I don't qualify. I'd be interested to know how your friend is getting one, more especially as I have more right because I am a European.
Everyone who pays by a credit or debit card for a check or bill has to provide ID proof, even if you are Spanish.
It makes no difference which European country you are from to have the right to live and work in Spain or any other European country.
Your friend may have a residencia card but has he been issued with a social security number.
The fact that Chile have good relations with Spain is good for the country, but for an individual, not necessarily so.
There will be a quailfying period to get a passport, but as Sue says, you need to be a citizen to get one. |

So you have a Chile passport........ living in Spain......... im suspecting you are ILLEGAL therefore you will have a LONG wait until you get a Spanish passport. Unless you have been LEGALLY working and residing in Spain for 10 years you are not a citizen of that country therefore you wont get a Spanish Passport. So i guess its just a matter of time until they ship you back to Chile! |
